About The Position

The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) is establishing a 24/7 shelter for 8 to 10 families with children experiencing homelessness in Chittenden County, Vermont. This Family Shelter will provide temporary shelter, housing advocacy, and services aimed at helping families secure permanent housing. The Associate Director will work alongside the Program Director to oversee shelter operations, supervise Housing Advocates, Interns, and Volunteers, and manage special projects. This role involves providing leadership in the Program Director's absence and ensuring that housing advocates effectively utilize case management plans to facilitate swift transitions from shelter to permanent housing. The Associate Director will also be responsible for ensuring staff and guests comply with all program policies and procedures.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in social or human services or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and knowledge are acquired.
Strong supervisory, management, and training skills.
Demonstrated history of success in working with people experiencing homelessness.
Demonstrated history of success in program development.
In-depth knowledge of the causes and effects of homelessness.
In-depth knowledge of affordable housing.
In-depth knowledge of poverty.
In-depth knowledge of economic justice.
In-depth knowledge of multiple oppressions affecting economically vulnerable groups.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

Assist in overseeing the operations of the Family Shelter.
Supervise Housing Advocates, Interns, Volunteers, and special projects.
Provide leadership and direction in the absence of the Program Director.
Ensure housing advocates are using housing / case management plans to move families quickly out of shelter and into permanent housing.
Ensure staff and guests are adhering to all program policies and procedures.
