Under general direction, the Associate Director of Student Engagement provides leadership and management of student involvement, student activities, and related departmental functions. This includes direct oversight of Registered Student Organizations, advising and training student leaders, managing compliance and risk management processes, and coordinating the use of Texan Sync and the Texan Trail Transcript. The role supervises professional and student staff, manages departmental assessment and reporting, and partners with faculty, staff, alumni, and external groups to strengthen campus engagement. The Associate Director also oversees major student traditions and serves on institutional committees and projects in support of divisional goals. Serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position is on-site located at Tarleton State University’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Work hours: Mon–Fri; 8 AM–5 PM or as required by events and programming. Occasional evenings/weekends required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eight years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field required.
  • Supervisory experience with professional and student staff required.
  • Experience with assessment, engagement tracking systems (e.g., Texan Sync), and co-curricular programming preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Student Involvement Oversight Provides oversight of more than 150 Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). Manages Texan Sync and the Texan Trail Transcript (TTT) to support organization operations and track involvement. Oversees organization registration, officer training, travel approval, event compliance, and risk management. Guides major involvement programs such as the Involvement Fair, Halloween Carnival, and Faith Fair.
  • Student Activities and Traditions Oversees campus activities and traditions including Purple Thursday, Texan Bingo, Lighting of the Smokestack, Campus Lighting, Create-a-Critter, and MayFete. Manages planning, vendor contracts, risk management, and logistics for large-scale student events. Provides guidance to the Tarleton Activities Board (T.A.B.), supporting officer development and Uses assessment and feedback to improve program effectiveness.
  • Departmental Strategy and Assessment Partners with the Director of Campus Life to implement departmental goals, strategies, and initiatives aligned with Tarleton Forward 2030. Oversees assessment and reporting for student involvement and activities. Prepares annual reports, strategic documents, and presentations for divisional and institutional leadership. Builds partnerships across campus and in the community to support involvement and programming.
  • Staff Supervision and Development Supervises professional staff, graduate assistants, and student workers supporting student activities and involvement. Leads hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Maintains a professional work environment emphasizing accountability and effective service.
  • Other and Special Projects Represents Student Engagement and the Division of Student Engagement & Success at university functions, community events, and conferences. Serves on institutional committees, task forces, and working groups. Provides additional support and leads special projects or emergent priorities as assigned by the Director of Campus Life or divisional leadership.
