The J. Mack Robinson College of Business (RCB) at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta offers an exciting and unique opportunity to serve as the Associate Director of Sponsored Research. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Associate Dean for Research to build and maintain an innovative College of Business-sponsored programs portfolio.
  • Understand the culture of the business discipline, in which many faculty normally do not have experience working on sponsored research, and enable and encourage faculty and staff to pursue external funding for their work.
  • Manage the college's grant-related systems and processes that support research programs at RCB.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and cooperative working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and funding agency representatives.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on issues related to sponsored funding, contracting, and ongoing financial relationships with corporate, business, and foundation entities to support innovative collaborative research and pedagogical projects funded by industry.
  • Understand RCB faculty members' evolving research expertise and interests.
  • Identify funding opportunities for faculty based on individual research interests.
  • Initiate and plan workshops for all interested parties on applying to specific agencies for funding.
  • Work with faculty and staff to develop corporate/ industry contracts and partnerships.
  • Prepare materials regarding opportunities for external funding of research and other programmatic efforts, including review criteria and funding targets.
  • Develop handbooks and guides to assist faculty and staff in the preparation of grants and contracts.
  • Provide training for new faculty and administrators in RCB-specific procedures for application to funding agencies.
  • Assist with the administration of internal grants, such as those offered for summer support and similar awards for research.
  • Work with PIs to prepare and coordinate proposals, including creation of proposal development timelines, budget development, review of application requirements, preparation of required forms, and other aspects of the proposal process.
  • Edit and format sections of the research proposal and review documents to ensure adherence to sponsor and University guidelines.
  • Obtain College and University approvals of grant proposals for submission to funding agencies.
  • Assist OSPA in negotiation of contracts and represent RCB in discussions with funding agencies.
  • Conduct expenditure reviews to ensure compliance with grant rules/regulations.
  • Forecast budget expenditures and manage expenditures in collaboration with the PI to ensure expenses are paid according to agency guidelines.
  • Prepare no-cost extension requests, budget revisions, and other actions that require sponsor approval.
  • Serve as the principal source of information on complex fiscal policies and procedures, including federal funding regulations, and advise PIs and project staff on existing options or alternatives, effectively recommending courses of action on fiscal matters.
  • Serve as the principal source of information /guidance for faculty on complex administrative policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with IRB Compliance Administrator and the IRB as necessary on assuring compliance with regulations regarding human subjects.
  • Obtain all necessary departmental and college approvals.
  • Assist OSPA in the preparation of subaward requests.
  • Review all modifications of the award, including requests for extensions, revisions in implementation schedules, and assist OSPA in negotiations with agency representatives concerning these issues.
  • Administer and interpret applicable federal and/or State laws and university policies regarding grant implementation and compliance.
  • Manage project closeout to ensure that administrative and fiscal requirements are met.
  • Assist the Associate Dean for Research in the development of special reports, proposals, and other high-level duties as assigned within RCB, including input into the research website.
  • Prepare and hoc financial reports to use in planning and decision-making, and closeout of awards.
  • Establish and maintain essential records related to grants and contracts while complying with record retention requirements, including maintenance of accurate records.
