The Corporate Affairs, Social Media Strategy, Associate Director role is a strategic, audience-first, and digitally fluent position focused on evolving Amgen’s corporate social media strategy and presence. This role will define Amgen's corporate social channels, build trust, strengthen reputation, and engage priority audiences through compelling, social-first storytelling that supports enterprise business and communications priorities. Reporting to the Senior Director, Social & Digital Media, the Associate Director will lead the development and execution of Amgen’s corporate social media strategy, channel roadmap, operating model, distribution approach, and measurement framework. The role involves translating enterprise priorities into clear channel, editorial, and engagement strategies, utilizing audience intelligence, social listening, competitive and cultural insights, and performance data to drive decisions. The Associate Director will partner closely with Corporate Affairs, Law, Regulatory, Compliance, Privacy, Security, agency, and technology partners, ensuring an innovative, audience-relevant, and appropriately governed approach in a highly regulated environment.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
  • Progressive experience in corporate social media, digital communications or integrated communications, including experience leading complex social media programs and initiatives in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare or another highly regulated, reputation-sensitive industry.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing enterprise or global social media strategy, governance and channel operations for a large, matrixed organization.
  • Proven ability to translate business, reputation and communications priorities into audience-first, platform-native social strategies and compelling editorial approaches.
  • Strong understanding of organic and paid social media, including major social platforms, audience targeting and segmentation, distribution and amplification strategies, community management, brand safety, accessibility and evolving platform requirements.
  • Experience partnering with Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, Privacy and Security teams to establish social media policies, review workflows, risk controls and escalation protocols.
  • Demonstrated experience using social listening, audience intelligence, competitive intelligence and cultural insights to identify trends, understand stakeholder perspectives, assess reputation signals and inform strategic decisions.
  • Experience developing measurement frameworks and translating complex performance data into clear insights and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Experience leading or supporting employee advocacy and executive social media or thought leadership programs.
  • Understanding of the evolving creator and influencer ecosystem and experience partnering with influencer strategy or related teams to integrate trusted external voices into broader communications strategies.
  • Demonstrated issues and crisis communications experience, including real-time monitoring, escalation and coordination in rapidly evolving online environments.
  • Working knowledge of SEO, generative engine optimization (GEO) and evolving digital discovery behaviors, with an understanding of how social media, search, web content and AI-powered platforms interact to shape how audiences discover, understand and engage with corporate information.
  • Demonstrated ability to responsibly apply artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to improve social intelligence, content workflows, operational efficiency and performance, with appropriate attention to governance, accuracy and risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to build organizational capability and lead through influence, including establishing best practices, coaching colleagues and creating tools and guidance that strengthen social media expertise across a matrixed organization.
  • Experience managing agencies, technology partners, budgets and multiple complex workstreams.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, presentation and strategic counsel skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and work effectively across functions.
  • Highly self-directed, curious and proactive, with sound judgment and the ability to balance innovation, audience needs, business priorities and reputational risk.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the employee social ambassador program and strengthen cross-channel audience engagement.
  • Establish social media policies, governance, and compliance standards.
  • Oversee channel operations, community management, moderation, and risk escalation.
  • Support issues management and crisis communications through social insights and rapid response.
  • Lead social listening, competitive intelligence, and audience insights.
  • Measure performance and optimize strategy using data-driven recommendations.
  • Drive responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies for social media and communications.
  • Build social media capabilities through training, coaching, and best practices.
  • Manage agency, platform, and technology partners, including budgets and performance.
  • Lead complex cross-functional initiatives across Corporate Affairs and global stakeholders.
