About The Position

Turner & Townsend Heery is looking for an Associate Director of Project Management to join their team. This role is part of the management team and will primarily support the Western Region and the California Cost Center 8140. The main responsibilities include driving growth and profitability in the San Francisco/Bay Area/Northern California (NorCal) region through leadership, new business development, client management, and service delivery. The Associate Director will act as a Business Generation lead for the NorCal Region, focusing on localized marketing, communications strategy, and new business development for government, education, and healthcare sectors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related construction field.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in a project management role within the construction A-E-C industry.
  • Experience in business development within the construction management consultancy and advisory industries.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the construction consultancy/advisory business that adds value or strategically enhances deliverables and initiatives.
  • Ability to identify critical messages and unique selling points, and communicate them clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to implement/enforce procedures and influence at all levels.
  • Self-starter with a strong ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to communicate complex ideas simply, both written and verbally.
  • Experience managing client accounts effectively and efficiently.
  • Experience managing teams of individual project managers and support staff.
  • Strong knowledge of the local NorCal construction market.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with internal team members, clients, and cross-functional team members.
  • Relevant technical and leadership experience overseeing major construction projects or programs.
  • Demonstrates excellent presentation, verbal, written, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support business generation and assist in managing new and existing client relationships, business operations, services, deliverables, and value-driven offerings for the Western Region and California Cost Center 8140.
  • Drive new revenue through the generation of new work and contract renewals on existing accounts.
  • Lead bid teams and manage proposal generation efforts in coordination with business generation and senior management teams.
  • Partner with client-facing professionals to develop marketing strategies for new business development, including custom proposals, bids, presentations, and other client deliverables.
  • Compile and vet existing materials and draft original content for proposals and client materials, highlighting value and expertise.
  • Engage with industry professionals through presentations, meetings, and networking events.
  • Identify and act upon cross-selling opportunities and develop strategies to promote Turner & Townsend across the U.S. with the Senior Management team.
  • Support key client/account management programs, working with key client leads on localized marketing plans and cross-selling opportunities aligned with project/revenue targets.
  • Manage local business development and client databases (e.g., CMD), ensuring staff awareness and data accuracy.
  • Prepare and deliver client presentations on relevant experience and knowledge, or partner with team members to generate new business.
  • Attend client interviews to present service offerings.
  • Source and interview prospective candidates for the business.
  • Provide leadership for the project management team responsible for planning and executing projects in the NorCal region.
  • Manage the NorCal portfolio of projects, including oversight of project management services, deliverables, and collaborations/resources.
  • Identify and diagnose client service delivery needs and the necessary business team resources for value-add results.
  • Utilize industry-standard tools for financial management, tracking margin levels, monthly fee/resource forecasts, and financial reports, including budgeting.
  • Source, recruit, interview, and manage new talent for service delivery with recruiting professionals.
  • Provide effective line management, including coaching and mentoring, to assigned staff members to support their professional and career growth.
  • Provide weekly updates on project status, initiatives, and staffing, highlighting any issues or conflicts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely client invoicing and follow up on accounts receivables.
  • Act as a liaison with municipal authorities having jurisdiction over projects.
  • Adhere to SOX control responsibilities where applicable.
