Associate Director, Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics

Atrium Therapeutics•San Diego, CA
•$185,000 - $205,000

About The Position

Atrium Therapeutics is seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PKPD) function and advance research and development programs in genetic cardiomyopathy. This highly visible role sits within Research and Development in the Development Sciences Department and is accountable for PKPD strategy and execution across antibody oligonucleotide conjugate programs, including bioanalytical sciences. The role calls for strong scientific understanding of PKPD principles applied to biologic and/or oligonucleotide therapeutics, sound judgment, and a strategic thinker who is also a hands-on leader of PKPD scientists. The Associate Director will support PKPD across programs from research through late-phase clinical development. This includes designing, overseeing, and interpreting nonclinical and clinical PK, TK, and tissue-distribution studies; applying PKPD principles to connect exposure with target engagement and PD biomarkers; informing dose selection and first-in-human dose rationale; and assessing the impact of immunogenicity on PK where relevant. The role will also establish phase-appropriate bioanalytical strategies, oversee GLP-compliant PK and ADA assay development, manage CRO activities, represent PKPD on project and study teams, and contribute to regulatory documents and interactions. The Associate Director will manage and develop a team of PhD and non-PhD scientists and foster a collaborative, high-performing culture. The position requires a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline and at least 8 years of biopharma or biotech experience in nonclinical and clinical PKPD and regulated bioanalysis. Relevant experience includes advancing programs from research into development, supporting IND submissions and regulatory interactions, overseeing CRO-based assay development and sample analysis, and managing scientific staff. Oligonucleotide and/or large-molecule experience is preferred. Atrium describes its work as developing targeted, non-viral delivery of siRNA to cardiac tissues for genetic cardiomyopathies.

Requirements

  • PhD in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of biopharma or biotech experience in nonclinical and clinical PKPD and regulated bioanalysis.
  • Proven record of advancing programs from research into development.
  • Experience authoring or supporting IND submissions and participating in regulatory interactions.
  • Hands-on experience designing and interpreting nonclinical and clinical PK studies, including NCA.
  • Strong understanding of PKPD principles.
  • Working knowledge of regulated bioanalysis, including ICH M10 and GLP/GCP.
  • Experience overseeing PK and ADA assay development and sample analysis at CROs.
  • Prior experience managing and developing scientific staff at multiple levels, including PhD and non-PhD scientists.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate complex data clearly to project teams and leadership.
  • Comfort working in a small-company environment with ambiguity; takes initiative and is a hands-on problem-solver.
