Reporting to the General Manager, Canada, the Director of Patient Advocacy will lead the development and execution of patient advocacy strategies across Canada, with a strong focus on rare diseases such as CIDP and gMG. This role will serve as the Canadian lead for patient advocacy and will collaborate closely with global and regional teams to ensure alignment and impact.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Experience implementing patient advocacy with measurable impact.
  • Deep understanding of the Canadian healthcare landscape, including rare disease policy, HTA processes, and patient access pathways.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
  • Ability to influence without authority and build trust across disciplines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; comfortable presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Agile, resilient, and collaborative team player.
  • Passionate about co-creation, innovation, empowerment, excellence, and humility.
  • 10–12 years’ experience in patient advocacy, public policy, or external affairs within biotech/pharma.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with Canadian patient organizations and rare disease communities.
  • Prior involvement in brand teams or cross-functional strategic planning.
  • Experience managing external agencies and budgets.
  • English required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Canadian Patient Advocacy strategy for rare diseases, in coordination with global and regional teams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Canadian patient advocacy organizations, rare disease coalitions, and public health stakeholders.
  • Develop SOPs and “ways of working” for sponsorships, grants, and patient empowerment programs.
  • Represent Canada in the Global Patient Advocacy Community and contribute to global initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Medical, Market Access, Communications, Regulatory) to integrate patient insights into strategic planning.
  • Support strategic engagement with priority stakeholders including policymakers, healthcare professionals, and advocacy leaders.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment of Canadian strategies with global and regional objectives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for patient groups in Canada and support co-creation of initiatives that reflect patient needs and values.
