About The Position

The Associate Director of Youth Development is responsible for the organization and delivery of quality youth development programs, including Summer Day Camps, School's Out Day Camps, Youth Club Programming, Family Fun Time, and Birthday Party Rentals at the Missoula YMCA. The director reports to the Senior Director of Youth Development, and will work alongside the senior director to develop, review, and monitor budgets for their department. The director manages all aspects of their programs, including hiring, staff training, staff scheduling, curriculum, program development, transportation, and quality across all sites. The director should have a deep passion for youth; a high level of energy; strong management and organizational skills; grit; and work well under pressure. Must be able to thrive in an environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit community service organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; OR five or more years related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have current CPR or obtain within first 30 days of employment
  • Valid driver’s license with insurable driver’s record
  • Successful experience in supervising and managing others
  • Excellent organization and administrative skills

  • Five or more years in a leadership role in a youth serving organization or camp

Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with “camp team” to create cohesive camp vision for quality programming & safety in all YMCA camps.
  • Plan curriculum for Day Camps, Curiosity Camps, Adventure Camps, and Teen Camps.
  • Collect and organize supplies & equipment.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with community partners.
  • Interview & hire camp staff.
  • Plan and implement camp training.
  • Serve as Camp Director for Day Camps, Curiosity Camps, Adventure Camps, and Teen Camps.
  • Ensure the safety of all children in the YMCA’s care.
  • Schedule and supervise camp counselors.
  • Prepare rosters, camp schedules, lesson plans, equipment, & supplies.
  • Transport participants in YMCA vehicles.
  • Organize camp events.
  • Monitor camp billing.
  • Communicate with participant families.
  • Plan and implement School’s Out Day Camp on no-school days.
  • Recruit and schedule staff for School's Out Day Camp.
  • Prepare camp curriculum for School's Out Day Camp.
  • Organize supplies & equipment for School's Out Day Camp.
  • Proactively communicate with community partners for School's Out Day Camp.
  • Coordinate shared spaces with the YMCA management team for School's Out Day Camp.
  • Create camp rosters for School's Out Day Camp.
  • Work alongside frontline staff in School's Out Day Camp.
  • Coordinate meals with the Food Program (ordering, preparations, & records) for School's Out Day Camp.
  • Plan and implement YMCA Youth Club programming.
  • Recruit and train volunteers/staff for Youth Club programming.
  • Track volunteer/staff hours for Youth Club programming.
  • Prepare club curriculum.
  • Organize supplies & equipment for Youth Club programming.
  • Coordinate shared spaces for Youth Club programming.
  • Create club rosters.
  • Shop for supplies for Youth Club programming.
  • Work alongside volunteers & frontline staff in clubs.
  • Innovate teen programming on an annual basis.
  • Oversee Family Fun Time.
  • Maintain a consistency to the Family Fun Time program.
  • Recruit, develop, and support staff for Family Fun Time.
  • Assist with setup/tear down of equipment for Family Fun Time.
  • Manage Birthday Party Packages.
  • Confirm rental details & communicate with renters & YMCA Welcome Center for Birthday Party Packages.
  • Recruit, develop, & schedule staff for Birthday Party Packages.
  • Work shifts as needed for Birthday Party Packages.
  • Perform basic cleaning & maintenance of spaces between Birthday Party rentals.
  • Budget and promote Birthday Party Packages.
  • Provide exemplary member service for Birthday Party Packages.
  • Support various other YMCA youth programs including but not limited to: Active 6, After School, Midday Move, SPLASH, and Youth Sports.
  • Support staff with open communication.
  • Conduct staff meetings.
  • Provide training opportunities for staff.
  • Perform site checks.
  • Hold open office hours.
  • Work shifts alongside frontline staff.
  • Conduct seasonal/annual performance reviews.
  • Verify and submit bi-weekly time records to business office for payroll.
  • Provide exemplary member service to YMCA members & program participants' families.
  • Assist with registration, billing, schedule changes, and questions.
  • Positively interact with families of program participants regarding individual children's behaviors.
  • Develop methods of modifying inappropriate behavior for optimal experiences in programs.
  • Work with Senior Director of Youth Development to develop, review, and monitor annual Youth Development budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Work to achieve program enrollment goals.
  • Compile statistics and reports.
  • Create draft budgets to determine new program feasibility.
  • Lead out in the organization by improving quality of programs, materials, and practices year after year.
  • Build/maintain community partnerships.
  • Ensure quality & safety are always at the forefront of all youth programs.
  • Lead by example and hold staff accountable to maintain YMCA quality and safety standards.
  • Participate in larger YMCA organization planning, work, and meetings.
  • Support the organization through participation in fundraising & special events (Annual Support Campaign, Riverbank Run, etc.).
  • Champion the organization in the community.
  • Effectively communicate with all YMCA departments and staff.
  • Complete required child sexual abuse prevention training.
  • Comply with legal and ethical obligation as a mandatory reporter of suspected child abuse and cooperate fully with any investigation of such abuse.
