About The Position

Student Connection and Community is seeking a student and community focused individual for the position of Associate Director of Student Connection and Community. This position is responsible for supporting student leaders and professional staff in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs that promote Student Connection and Community. The Associate Director plays a pivotal role in inspiring and leading a team of professionals, students, and community partners to drive impactful social initiatives. The Associate Director of Student Connection and Community (SCC) will direct, plan, organize and direct the day-to-day operations of Student Connection and Community Downtown, reporting to the Director of Student Connection and Community. The Associate Director will empower the students and staff of SCC with opportunities to become leaders within student clubs and organizations, support advising of Programming and Activities Board, and have oversight of the Downtown student engagement experience. SCC aligns with ASU's commitment to access, excellence, and inclusion. This role will support the overall operations of Student Clubs and Organizations University-wide, supporting over 1,000+ Clubs and Organizations across ASU. The Associate Director will establish clear metrics and evaluation processes to assess the impact of SCC’s programs, both qualitative and quantitative measures. Then using this date to make data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement. They will manage budgetary and financial resources effectively, seeking additional funding opportunities and partnerships to support the organization's initiatives. They will foster strong partnerships with community organizations, nonprofits, and other stakeholders; overseeing and expanding programs that connect students with community service and social impact opportunities, while maintaining transparency and accountability in organizational operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field including two (2) years managerial experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Knowledge of college/university student organization advising techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with members of the community and the community at large from different backgrounds.
  • Advance student experiences to cultivate community, healthfulness, and skill building.
  • Assist in the development and support of student lead programs, including researching best practices to provide guidance, designing training materials, and support event planning.
  • Help student leaders coordinate volunteer activities and service projects, including recruitment and outreach, training, and supervision of volunteers.
  • Assist student leaders in engaging with the ASU community, student organizations, and stakeholders to assess interests and needs, and build partnerships.
  • Collect and analyze data related to Clubs and Organizations to contribute to continuous program improvement.
  • Support communication efforts related to SCC, including social media outreach, website updates, and newsletter development and support as well as develop and deliver SCC training sessions and workshops for volunteers and ASU community members on social change topics.
  • Promote SCC within the university community and beyond by developing marketing strategies, maintaining an active online presence, and organizing outreach events to attract new members and partners.
  • Collaborate with other departments, organizations, and institutions to expand the reach and impact of SCC's programs and initiatives.
  • Manage the SCC physical spaces to ensure that it is well-maintained, clean, and organized, ensuring that the space serves as a welcoming and collaborative environment for students, faculty, and community members.
  • Participates in SCC strategic planning and provides local leadership for the planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation of programs and services, and reporting that are consistent with university and Educational Outreach and Student Service’s mission and goals.
  • Supports SCC in creating unique student experience. This includes participating in local meetings, supporting local initiatives and overall enhancement of the student experience for ASU students.
  • Enhance the student experience at university wide through supervising and supporting staff who advise the SCC team.
  • Administer hands-on involvement in the day-to-day operations of SCC, the student team and the programs being planned.
  • Support University wide events, such as Move-in and Welcome Week, Homecoming and Family Weekend.
  • Collaborate with the other groups on campus, such as the Cultural Connections team, in supporting a diverse range of programs and events that enhance the student experience and fosters feelings of inclusion at ASU.

  • Develops, maintains, and implements department policies and procedures.
  • Participates in assessment efforts within the department, including basic tracking of activities, program evaluation, and measurement of learning outcomes.
  • Make suggestions to resolve problems and issues affecting the department and directs measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
  • Accountable for fiscal issues related to SCC including budgeting, budget tracking, year-end forecasting, and development of new revenue streams.
  • Develops and maintains strong, professional, interpersonal relationships with student leaders.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, development, supervision, evaluation of professional staff in the assigned areas, as appropriate, to ensure effective staff performance.
  • Ensure the responsible planning and expenditure of fiscal resources in a manner consistent with all university policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • Demonstrate role modeling, ethical decision-making, cultural competency, responsible management, and leadership for students through all actions and communications.
  • Represent Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) through attendance and active participation at campus, university and off-campus committees, events and programs.
