About The Position

The UND Alumni Association & Foundation is seeking a creative, collaborative Associate Director of Stewardship Communication to connect donors with the people, programs and possibilities made possible by their generosity. In this role, you’ll develop compelling impact stories, reports, videos, web content and other communications that show donors the difference their giving makes—and inspire lasting relationships with the University of North Dakota. POSITION SUMMARY The Associate Director of Stewardship Communication will work alongside the Director of Stewardship & Donor Appreciation (DoSDA) and the Associate Director of Stewardship Programs to further the development of content, videos, materials, projects, and use of platforms in support of our stewardship strategy. With a donor-centered mindset and a passion for sharing the impact of giving, this position will inspire long-term relationships between donors and the University through stewardship programs that ensure every donor is thanked their gifts and understands the impact of their philanthropy. This position will create and disseminate custom correspondence, impact reports, impact stories, web content and other communications aimed at inspiring continued philanthropy. The Associate Director of Stewardship Communication position requires a self‐starter who is able to work both collaboratively and independently and possesses strong interpersonal and coordination skills as well as a passion to make others feel appreciated.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, advertising, business or related fields.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in creating project plans with concise, executable timelines and measurable results.
  • Knowledge and experience working across diverse mediums, including print, electronic, social networking, video, and other emerging media.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing skills and story-telling capability.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to follow through with experience working with a project management system.
  • Strong ability to collaborate effectively with parnters is essential.
  • Ability to operate computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to focus and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to travel independently via car and air.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, squat, and lift or move objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and editorial communication skills
  • Strong storytelling, research, and interviewing abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience with digital content creation, websites, social media, etc
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management platforms
  • Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and stewardship
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning

Nice To Haves

  • 5-7 years of experience working in communications, marketing, media, journalism or public relations or a master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a nonprofit or academic setting also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the DoSDA and the Associate Director of Stewardship Programs with the development and execution of a creative, cohesive, and integrated strategic plans involving communications for the ongoing stewardship of gifts.
  • Conduct interviews and write stories that show the impact of donors’ gifts for stewardship pieces and the Alumni Magazine.
  • Lead an impact report team, developing the vision for each report, managing the collection of information, writing the bulk of the content, and designing processes for all annual and lifetime impact reports.
  • Serve as project manager to UNDAAF’s videographer, helping to develop ideas and narrative arcs for effective video stewardship; accompany the videographer on shoots as production assistant.
  • Assist in the execution of Personalized Stewardship Plans for high-level donors. This strategy involves creating impact reports, e-communications, letters, stories, print pieces and assisting with special events.
  • Assist in carrying out the vision for annual giving quarterly impact, giving society stewardship and first-time donor plan communication.
  • Write content for communications and marketing for stewardship-related projects, programs and events and work collaboratively with Marketing and Communications team to cross-promote.
  • Manage the ThankView platform to disseminate stewardship videos.
  • Update UNDAAF webpages with impact stories and stewardship events.
  • Cultivate partnerships within UNDAAF and across campus to coordinate stewardship communications and projects.
  • Assist with social media campaigns aimed at donor relations and stewardship.
  • Manage workflow using project management systems and protocols.
  • Assist with other activities assigned.
