About The Position

The Associate Director of Professional Development oversees and manages the Career Development Office’s professional development programs, including designing, producing and presenting programming and creating and maintaining Career Development Office materials. The person in this position will have minimal supervision because they will be responsible for managing the programs and resources within this portfolio. The Associate Director will meet regularly with the Assistant Dean of the Career Development Office, where the position is housed, and will collaborate on other Career Development Office initiatives and programming. The Associate Director will need to assess and continuously improve existing programs, resources and advising tools. We are looking for someone who can assess the efficacy of current programming, can articulate a vision professional development that has a transformative effect on the student experience and student employment outcomes, and can creatively integrate that vision into our very collaborative CDO.

Requirements

  • J.D. Degree and at least three years of legal practice;
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering group presentations and materials;
  • Demonstrated strong project management experience;
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the legal profession and related recruiting practices and hiring needs of legal employment;
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, communication and counseling skills;
  • Project management skills;
  • Ability to interact with all segments of the legal community and provide programming and resources for a diverse law school population;
  • Outstanding communication skills, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to formulate, implement, conduct, and facilitate career related workshops and comfortable presenting to audiences of all sizes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience involving career and/or professional development counseling in a law school, another institution of higher education, or other legal environment;
  • Experience advising, mentoring, or counseling junior attorneys or law students
  • Knowledge of the legal employment market in California, including expanding and contracting practice and legal subject areas;
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities (including counseling, outreach and programming);
  • Coaching experience and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels and coaches students and alumni concerning career planning and job search strategies, as well as overall professional development;
  • Creates and delivers professional development programming content and course materials, develops learning metrics and outcomes, evaluates student participation and learning, assesses outcomes, works across departments to enlist support participation in programming;
  • Works with Bay Area law schools to maintain relationships, address consortium-wide concerns, and produce professional development events;
  • Organizes and executes career fairs, panels, and workshops;
  • Coordinates co-sponsorship of office programs with student organizations including developing content for the events, generating programming ideas and suggesting speakers;
  • Produce written and on-line materials including handouts, videos, and website/internet content;
  • Represents office among Professional Development peers in professional organization(s);
  • Develops, formulates, implements and evaluates yearly calendar of professional development programs, including workshops, panels, and networking events;
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
