About The Position

The Associate Director of Marketing will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, monitoring, modification, and evaluation of assigned program or department operations, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies. This role involves writing proposals, negotiating contracts, and securing funding from various sources. The position also requires administrative and financial coordination, serving as an agency representative, maintaining relationships with elected officials, and leading a team including a Marketing Coordinator. Additionally, the Associate Director will contribute to agency-wide initiatives and budget development. The role focuses on implementing the agency's marketing and communications strategy, showcasing the agency and its leadership through various community opportunities, and supporting planned giving initiatives. Key responsibilities include writing and editing marketing collateral, ensuring brand consistency, overseeing website updates and digital presence, managing online activities like newsletters and infographics, leading media outreach, evaluating communication effectiveness, and managing creative campaigns for various projects. The Associate Director will also provide input on the annual marketing budget, serve on the Board Development Committee, and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders. The position requires performing all duties in accordance with agency principles, values, ethics, policies, and regulatory requirements, modeling positive attitudes, collaborating with other programs, managing time effectively, participating in ongoing training, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, marketing, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of successful, progressive, communication and marketing experience, preferably for a non-profit organization, including knowledge of and/or experience with website development, annual reports, newsletters, social media, and agency promotion.
  • Knowledge and experience in the following areas is required: the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving, research and cultivation practices, writing, special events, designing direct mail solicitations, and written materials for social media campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a comprehensive marketing plan, attracting volunteers, and generating donor interest.
  • Knowledge of Council of Accreditation Standards (COA).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, monitoring, modification, and evaluation of assigned program or department operations.
  • Ensure all activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Write proposals, negotiate, and secure contracts with county, state, and federal agencies, as well as other funding sources.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on administrative and financial matters, assist with marketing efforts, and build relationships with external partners.
  • Serve as an agency representative at internal and external meetings, promotional events, workgroups, and professional organizations.
  • Maintain up-to-date contacts for all local and district elected officials that represent geographic areas that the agency serves.
  • Ensure elected officials are aware of and included in communications related to Agency events and Agency impact.
  • Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate department staff, including the Marketing Coordinator.
  • Facilitate team meetings, staff training, and workgroups to support operational consistency and professional growth.
  • Represent the program or department in leadership meetings, committees, and workgroups, contributing to agency-wide initiatives and budget development.
  • Implement the Agency marketing and communications strategy.
  • Actively research, pursue, and secure strategic community opportunities—such as panel discussions, awards, professional speaking engagements, community forums, and thought-leadership platforms—to showcase and position the agency, its leadership, and its staff.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and the CEO, support the strategic development, marketing infrastructure, and communication execution of the organization's planned giving initiatives.
  • Play a lead role in writing, editing, and co-producing written material across all agency marketing collateral.
  • Ensure the implementation of the branding guidelines and messaging across the agency; critically review and update printed materials such as brochures, newsletters, and promotional products.
  • Oversee and share in the day-to-day development of website updates, digital footprints, and the Marketing Plan to increase Agency visibility, site visitation, and engagement.
  • Manage online activities, including routine updates to the website, execution of the monthly newsletter, and development of innovative data visualizations such as infographics.
  • Take the lead in organizing media outreach; arrange all media contacts, press briefings, and interviews; provide talking points and other materials as needed; respond to media inquiries quickly and effectively.
  • Evaluate results and impact of communications activities; report on developments, trends, and digital metrics to the Executive Director.
  • Manage creative campaigns for print projects, direct mail, advertising, e-newsletters, and web initiatives.
  • Provide input and monitor the annual marketing budget.
  • Serve as a staff member of the Board Development Committee.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with representatives of the community, stakeholders, employees, and public interest groups.
  • Secure event sponsorships through outreach and partnership with local business groups.
  • Participate in agency events to facilitate a connection to program staff and support department staff.
  • Perform all duties in a manner consistent with the principles and values of agency, while adhering to applicable professional codes of ethics, the agency’s policies and procedures, contractor requirements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Model and communicate appropriate positive attitudes toward the agency’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Work collaboratively with all agency programs and staff to provide support as needed.
  • Utilize and maintain calendar with all work-related details in order to manage time effectively and share calendar information with coworkers.
  • Participate in on-going training to expand and develop professional skills.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the agency, as assigned.
