Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and four years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
  • Extensive academic counseling experience and a demonstrated ability to effectively advise a diverse population of high-achieving students across all academic disciplines.
  • Skilled at analyzing complex student needs, identifying solutions, and providing guidance that supports successful completion of the UHP Program.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory abilities, including training, mentoring, overseeing outreach efforts, and managing the work of others.
  • Experience evaluating and selecting students from competitive pools of high school and community college applicants while consistently adhering to all University policies, procedures, and guidelines related to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional, collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Proficient in data entry, database management, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and archiving critical information on shared drives.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft and CSLink.
  • Ability to lead Leadership and Engagement programming.
  • Ability to leverage social media to foster student engagement and belonging.
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Higher Education, Social Sciences or Liberal Arts preferred.
  • Demonstrated University Honors Program expertise preferred.
  • Academic Advising experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, and implement large and small scale programs, series programs, and creative practices to develop leadership skills and community involvement on and off campus.
  • Create and implement programs and initiatives that meet the needs of beginning and advanced student leaders.
  • Expand leadership, professional development, and civic engagement opportunities for UHP students through collaboration with university departments and off campus organizations.
  • Manage advising activities and workshops for UHP students in collaboration with the UHP Academic Advising Lead.
  • Ensure that students observe university deadlines and complete their degree and UHP requirements.
  • Provide independent student advisement and guidance for the incoming Honors cohort at Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) as well as for the entire Honors student population.
  • Serve on the University Advising Council (UAC).
  • Assist the Honors Director in identifying areas for Program enhancement and developing strategies for the implementation of programmatic changes.
  • Assist the Honors Director in shaping and communicating to the Honors student population Program guidelines and ensuring understanding and compliance.
