About The Position

The Associate Director position is responsible for supporting the oversight and leadership of the Shorelight English Pathway Programs, serving as the primary contact between the Shorelight Boston Office, the International Accelerator Program (IAP) and American Collegiate Program at American University, and the International Direct Entry program. The position will also work closely with the International Student and Scholar Services office in reference to undergraduate applicants to the International Accelerator and American Collegiate Programs and any additional AU offices that have questions regarding Shorelight applicants (Controller's Office, Registrar's Office, Global and Immersive Studies, Advising Units, etc). This role also assists with the recruitment, evaluation, and selection of freshman and transfer applicants from assigned countries and/or regions outside the United States, including virtual outreach, international recruitment travel, and the evaluation and file review for freshman and transfer applications from any country outside the US as needed. This position is also responsible for assisting with the coordination and staffing of on-campus programs and online events for prospective students throughout the enrollment cycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5 - 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of trends and best practices in international education and enrollment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the review of international secondary and post-secondary (bachelor’s degree) educational credentials and transcripts.
  • Experience organizing and conducting international recruitment and territory management, as well as being familiar with leveraging data and making strategy proposals that are data-informed.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills, writing and public speaking ability, problem-solving ability, events and overseas travel planning, public relations, customer service and skills are essential.
  • Skill using email, word processing, social media, spreadsheet/ data analysis and presentation development software applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint while preparing briefings, reports, and presentations.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Staff management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides operational oversight and strategic guidance for the International Accelerator and American Collegiate Programs, including establishing and maintaining guidelines for program admissions.
  • Cultivates, strengthens, and manages relationships with key partners, such as the Shorelight Boston Office, International Accelerator Program, and American Collegiate Program.
  • Work with the Director of International Admissions and the Shorelight office to create a comprehensive university marketing and recruitment strategy for direct entry admissions for qualified international students.
  • Reads and evaluates applications for undergraduate admission; makes decisions or refers to either the Director of International Admissions or Assistant Vice President of Admissions.
  • Communicates with prospective international students, parents, alumni and college counselors from around the world.
  • Serves as a liaison with various campus partners and serves as the key point of contact of a defined population such as the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), AU Diplomats, School of International Service (SIS)-Risumeikan, Student Accounts, Graduate departments and/or students who wish to defer admission.
  • Conducts international recruitment travel and virtual recruitment outreach within specific countries or a defined recruitment region outside the U.S.; travels to regions/countries and independently organizes high school visits, individual interviews, recruitment and conversion events and receptions, and other programs as needed.
  • Supervise, train, develop, and mentor one Assistant Director of International Admissions.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of International Admissions on the day-to-day management of the International Accelerator and American Collegiate Programs, including application review, I-20 processing, and logistical aspects of the enrollment process.
  • Conducts on-campus information sessions and interviews for prospective students and parents; gives overview of university programs/majors, student life and the admissions process
  • Finalizes airline, hotel, and car rental reservations for travel and completes expense reports, as well as other clerical tasks as they arrive.
