About The Position

The Associate Director of Human Resources is a full-time, in-person role serving as the primary HR resource for staff and leadership across the organization. This position is responsible for recruiting and onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, and HR systems management. The ideal candidate is an experienced HR professional who is comfortable working independently, building and improving systems, and fostering a supportive and compliant workplace in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly with compliance documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, use discretion, and exhibit professionalism.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills that adapt to different audiences.
  • Comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and building structure in an informal environment.
  • Tech-savvy with demonstrated ability to learn and navigate new systems quickly.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Psychology, or related field with 3+ years of HR generalist experience including benefits administration and employment compliance
  • Working knowledge of federal and NC state employment law (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, COBRA, OSHA)
  • Demonstrated experience with HRIS platforms; ability to serve as a primary system user and administrator.

  • Familiarity with Paycor or similar HRIS preferred
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar HR certification, preferred
  • Experience in a nonprofit or community-based organization preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with program directors to revise job descriptions, post open positions, and coordinate the recruiting process from application through offer letter.
  • Oversee and develop a consistent onboarding process for all new hires, including I-9 verification, benefits enrollment, screening, orientation to mission, security procedures, policies, and payroll.
  • Serve as a Paycor administrator alongside Finance, managing position records, pay rates, departments, and conducting regular system audits.
  • Lead the completion and ongoing administration of three active Paycor module implementations: Scheduling, Recruitment, and LMS.
  • Support Finance and/or Executive Director in payroll processing.
  • Serve as a confidential and approachable resource for staff navigating workplace concerns and/or ideas, providing guidance and support while using discretion about when to escalate.
  • Partner with program directors on employee matters as they arise, addressing with consistency and recognizing that director engagement and communication styles vary.
  • Draft performance improvement plans and disciplinary documentation in collaboration with directors, and coordinate follow-ups.
  • Monitor and apply relevant federal and NC state employment laws to ensure JCC HR policies and practices remain compliant.
  • Maintain accurate employee benefits records in Employee Navigator, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Assist Finance to ensure timely COBRA notification upon employee separation in accordance with federal requirements.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Executive Director on annual compensation analysis and pay rate benchmarking.
  • Coordinate with directors to facilitate and document training and credentialing.
