About The Position

The Associate Director of Human Resources provides advanced professional level expertise, interpretation, and guidance to administration, managers, supervisors, and all employees on the full range of all HR services including but not limited to recruitment and selection, affirmative action, classification, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee and labor relations, organizational design and workforce planning. The Associate Director partners with supervisors and administrators to ensure organizational effectiveness through proper classifications of positions, alignment of structure, staffing, processes, and culture. This position actively participates in the creation of processes and programs, including change initiatives and continuous improvement measures aligned with college strategies and objectives. Additionally, the Associate Director provides team leadership and training to HR colleagues in the areas of contract interpretation, project management, and transactional processes. This position works extensively with the employees of the college (staff, faculty, supervisors, and administrators) to provide expertise and guidance in the areas of human resources, change management, organizational planning, labor relations, contract compliance, and campus culture. The position works closely with colleagues at the Minnesota State system office and the service center to ensure accurate training, compliance, and transactions. There is a high degree of responsibility in this position, requiring professionalism, diplomacy, integrity, cooperation, and highly effective communication and problem-solving skills. The individual in this position must be adept at interacting with a wide variety of campus constituents often in emotionally charged situations and complicated personnel issues. Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of professional Human Resources experience; Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field may substitute for 1 year of experience and Master’s Degree in Human Resources or related field may substitute for 18 months of experience.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students and employees.
  • Experience with the principles and practices of recruitment, position classification, selection, and compensation.
  • Knowledge of job evaluation principles and practices sufficient to direct position analysis and advise hiring managers in development of position descriptions, classification process, and performance management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws governing labor relations, compensation administration and employee benefits including FLSA, ADA, FMLA, unemployment, worker’s compensation and equal opportunity employment sufficient to interpret, administer, and advise agency staff, managers, supervisors, and administrators.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint or other similar software

Nice To Haves

  • Professional human resource certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws, rules, and policies sufficient to administer, interpret, and provide guidance to others.
  • Strong analytical skills involving data analysis and management including using metrics and analytics to drive decisions and strategic priorities.
  • Advanced verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including making informative presentations and leading professional development sessions.
  • Experience with PeopleAdmin, PeopleSoft, Workday, or other applicant tracking systems.
  • Ability to identify training needs of staff sufficient to recommend, develop, and deliver training programs to staff.
  • Strong background in talent and change management with project management to support strategic priorities
