About The Position

The Associate Director of Education & Community Engagement contracts and maintains records of service for all outreach activities for Central City Opera (CCOHA), including school and community programs, workshops, master classes, school residencies, virtual programs, tour bookings, professional development and engagement collaborations. An integral member of the Education team, they strategize, research, and assist in both the creation of new projects and the continuous improvement of ongoing programs, including the creation, organization, maintenance, and service of Education department materials, costumes, props, set pieces, and equipment (including but not limited to: sound and musical equipment, lighting and stage management tools and equipment, and the maintenance and upkeep of registration and insurance and insured drivers for two CCOHA vans between the months of September through April). In keeping with responsibilities, they commit to the following: presenting inventive programming that is relevant to and inclusive of communities of the region; broadening and diversifying the opera audience; building strong relationships with new, developing, and underserved communities; and connecting what is unique to Central City Opera, both historic and artistic, to new audiences.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in music, education, performing arts, arts administration, or related discipline;
Strong project management skills with the ability to balance multiple projects, competing deadlines, and changing priorities, while meeting deadlines;
Flexibility and high energy required;
Demonstrated initiative, autonomy, and strategic thinking;
Ability to work cooperatively in a variety of situations with a broad range of individual personalities;
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license;
Because many school districts and performance/service site venues require it of vendors and guests, a CBI/FBI background check providing clearance for on-site work;
Demonstrated commitment to the values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility;
Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times, especially amidst competing demands and in stressful situations;
Applicable teaching experience (in classroom or applied settings);
Activity in professional, academic, service or community organizations, and/or affinity groups;
Proficient with Microsoft 365 and other technological applications used in office and program administration.
Ability to lift 50 lbs., loading and unloading equipment for programs and events
Valid Driver’s License and clean motor driving record. Driving to locations across the Denver metro area, Central City, and other destinations in the state is required.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of the history, repertoire and performance practices of the Opera genre strongly preferred;
Vocal, theater, or educational performance experience a plus, video audition submissions are welcome;
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English strongly preferred;

Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Education in planning, coordinating, and managing all educational and community engagement activities at Central City Opera.
Oversee the on-site completion of all Education programs, coordinating with teachers, administrators, and presenters; lead contract workers, hourly workers, and volunteers while on-site; communicate any necessary details to the Director in a timely fashion.
Complete monthly reports that include service report tracking (attendance, audience demographics, etc.), budget tracking, pre- and post-event surveying (both personnel and community), and other archival and documentation methods.
Assign and complete production assistance tasks and manage a diverse roster of Touring and Teaching Artists, assess their ability to complete work as assigned, and maintain PR/marketing collateral files on an annual basis.
Act as a lead teaching and touring artist for various programs—vocal performance is a regular part of this role.
Manage production calendar, assigning and confirming Touring and Teaching artists’ availability by program.
Ensure and document Touring and Teaching artist minimum qualifications, trainings, and clearance for working with youth as representatives with CCOHA, provide with materials (music and other) as needed, and coordinate travel and housing for touring productions and as assigned.
Collaborate and assist the Director of Education in outreach, sales and marketing and programs with schools, venues, and community partners.
Collaborate within and outside of the department to create artistic, educational, and entertainment content and to assist in creating creative briefs for a variety of marketing, curricular, and engagement needs.
Develop and maintain resource guides related to CCOHA programs for use by teachers, students, patrons, and the community.
On occasion, lead and develop virtual on-line programs, including performances, professional development, residencies, workshops and more.
Encourage inclusive collaboration centered upon education and community engagement.
Assist Director of Education & Community Engagement with identifying, evaluating, and implementation of opportunities for vertical integration within Education and Community Engagement initiatives, including analyzing existing programs—to strategically restructure and/or expand to create sustainable revenue streams.
Break down barriers to entry for underserved audiences, students, and artists.
Forge authentic relationships in communities.
Identify and project manage new endeavors and collaborations with newly engaged communities, venues, and partners.
Other duties as assigned.
