About The Position

The W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University is a large business school with over 25,000 students. The Associate Director of Development will work collaboratively with the ASU Foundation for A New American University (ASUF) and academic leadership. This role is externally focused, responsible for engaging a portfolio of individuals, corporations, and foundations with potential affinity for ASU or the school. This position will serve as the fundraising liaison for the NASPO Department of Supply Chain Management and will be instrumental in leading the business school’s $100M Supply Chain Futures initiative, a key fundraising priority for ASU’s Changing Futures Campaign. Performance will be evaluated based on achieving financial goals and contact metrics. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Development for the W.P. Carey School of Business. The ideal candidate will leverage ASU's status as the #1 Innovative University in the US.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information.

  • Ability to represent the institution well and possess an advocate’s belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer database systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or currently enrolled in bachelor's degree program.
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of successful professional development and/or fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes strategic fundraising and engagement efforts for assigned areas by designing, implementing, evaluating, and refining development activities to drive donor retention, reactivation, acquisition, and pipeline growth.
  • Actively engages donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and students to build and manage a personal major gift/prospect portfolio, focusing on securing gifts of $50,000 or more, in accordance with performance metrics.
  • Collaborates with the development team, unit leaders, and academic leaders to implement and coordinate special fundraising and engagement opportunities by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting annual, major, and planned gifts in alignment with ASUF and University Development Office objectives.
  • Collaborates with various faculty, institute/center directors, and fundraisers to maximize a prospect's philanthropic potential based on their interests.
  • Develops and submits written proposals, budgets, and other collateral materials for securing significant philanthropic investments ($50,000+).
  • Collaborates with and coordinates efforts of various ASU offices and functions (e.g., alumni engagement, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, development, donor relations, estate and gift planning, financial services, research and prospect management) to advance prospect and donor strategies.
  • Proactively manages a personal major gift/prospect portfolio ($50,000+), develops and executes strategic prospect strategies leading to solicitation and investment based on special assignment opportunities.
  • Uses the ASUF prospect management and tracking system (e.g., Salesforce) to record and coordinate contacts and proposals.
  • Ensures achievement of core fundraising metrics, including face-to-face visits with prospects, identification of new prospects, growth in cumulative giving from the prospect portfolio, and major gift proposals submitted.
  • Ensures proper stewardship and recognition of donors in the portfolio.
  • Participates as a member of the ASUF development team and serves as a resource to colleagues regarding fundraising opportunities.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with deans, chairs, directors, and faculty members of assigned unit(s).
