About The Position

The University of Redlands' Counseling Center is seeking a licensed therapist or licensed psychologist to be the Associate Director. This position provides a range of administrative, clinical services, clinical supervision, and outreach services in support of the mission of the University of Redlands. This position leads the training program for our masters and doctoral level student therapists. In addition to the usual responsibilities at a university counseling center, we are seeking candidates who take seriously the impact of marginalized identities, experiences of inequality, and experiences of oppression and privilege on mental health. Specifically, we are looking for a licensed therapist who has clinical experience with students of color, first generation, low income, LBTQIIA+ and international college students and is qualified to supervise our practicum students.

Requirements

  • Requires licensure in the state of California as a Clinical or Counseling Psychologist or licensed for 2+ years as an LMFT, LPCC, or LCSW.
  • All candidates must be able to demonstrate ability to work with students of color, 1st generation, low income, LGBTQIIA+, and international college students.
  • A strong interest in the developmental and mental health issues of college students is required as well as the ability to apply therapeutic skills to students with psychological learning and physical disabilities.
  • Good interpersonal skills are essential as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to legal standards set forth by the state of California and federal laws, along with the ethical standards established by the APA/BBS and the University of Redlands.
  • This position requires strong motivation, drive, and proven ability to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • A successful candidate will have experience using the Internet and be competent in a variety of Windows-based computer programs including MS Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of counseling theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of ethical standards established by the American Psychologists Associations (APA)/Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) and the University.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current principles, practices, and trends in higher education.
  • Knowledge of applicable, federal, and state laws and regulations.
  • Ability to apply legal and policy standards.
  • Understanding of developmental and mental health issues.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Training Program: Maintain relationships with local masters and doctoral programs who provide students for our practicum sites at the Redlands campus and Woodbury campus. Attend practicum fairs to recruit students for our training program. Lead interviewing process for practicum students. Coordinate group supervision schedule including inviting department representatives and guest speakers to do presentations on relevant topics. Design orientation and ongoing training for practicum students. In consultation with the Director design and manage any remediation plans needed for practicum students.
  • Administrative: Assists the Director in management as well as supervision of the professional and administrative staff. Participate in assessment of the effectiveness of services. Assist with analysis and reporting of assessment results. Contribute to continued Counseling Center program and policy development.
  • Clinical Services: Provide short-term individual therapy, group therapy, single session therapy, crisis intervention, workshops, and case management for University of Redlands students; provide consultation to the university community regarding issues that impact the educational, developmental, and psychological well-being of students; provide referrals to and coordinate care with community providers.
  • Supervision: Coordinate group supervision and provide individual supervision to practicum students; provide didactic training to practicum students; co-facilitate group therapy.
  • Outreach Services: Develop and participate in community education and outreach programming to a diverse student population within classes and in the campus community, e.g., Suicide Prevention (QPR) training and training of faculty and staff in how to manage students in distress.
  • Participate in committees involving collaborating with other departments (eg. the CARE Team to support students of concern).
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned or directed.
