About The Position

Nuvation Bio is a biopharmaceutical company focused on addressing critical unmet needs in oncology by developing innovative therapeutic candidates. The Associate Director, Medical Content and Publications will leverage their scientific and medical writing expertise to develop and deliver high-quality medical content and publications. This role is ideal for an experienced medical writer seeking career advancement within the biotech industry. The successful candidate will possess strong scientific knowledge, excel in cross-functional and external stakeholder collaboration, demonstrate excellent scientific writing skills, and be proficient in project management. Reporting to the Director, Publications and Medical Strategy, this individual will serve as the medical writer for abstract submissions, congress presentations, and journal articles related to lung cancer and glioma. They will manage internal and external author reviews and submissions to congresses and/or journals, ensuring compliance with internal SOPs and Good Publication Practices, including familiarity with ICMJE/GPP guidelines and current publication ethics standards. A key aspect of this role involves leading the team's responsible use of AI in content creation, advising on the evolving landscape of AI-assisted information sharing by healthcare providers, and contributing to the broader publications and AI strategy under the guidance of the Director and Executive Director of Medical Strategy. Additionally, the role requires delivering well-written, researched, and scientifically rigorous FAQs, advisory board content, and other medical communications projects for the company's full product pipeline. Further responsibilities will be assigned based on team and business requirements.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) in a medical or science-related specialty, although significant experience in the medical writing field may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree
  • 3+ years in medical communications agency, biotech, or pharma required
  • Experience in medical writing, content creation, or medical communications required
  • Lung or neuro-oncology experience highly desired; oncology experience required
  • Have knowledge of ICMJE/GPP guidelines and current industry standards for compliant use of AI to support publications and medical content generation
  • Ability to work independently with strong sense of accountability and ability to execute
  • Strong project management skills, attention to detail, and sense of urgency
  • Familiarity with publications review systems is preferred
  • Ability to travel to Nuvation Bio Headquarters and professional congresses as appropriate (<20%)

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of highly credible scientific content for congress presentations and peer-reviewed publications
  • Develop high‑quality scientific content including medical slide decks, scientific narratives, advisory board materials, literature summaries, and medical FAQ documents
  • Serve as a strategic contributor to the team's publications and AI strategy, partnering with the Medical Strategy Leadership to shape how the function adapts to AI-driven changes in scientific information-seeking and sharing
  • Monitor and advise on trends in how healthcare providers and other stakeholders use AI/LLM tools to access and interpret medical and scientific information, translating these insights into actionable publication planning
  • Support strategies to ensure company scientific content is accurately represented when accessed via AI tools (e.g., structured abstracts, open-access deposition, indexing practices), balancing discoverability with compliance and scientific integrity
  • Stay current on evolving guidance from ICMJE, GPP, and journal/publisher policies regarding generative AI use in authorship, content development, and disclosure, and ensure team practices remain compliant; ensure all deliverables meet regulatory, compliance, and publication‑quality standards
  • Bring forward-looking, big-picture thinking to how AI reshapes publication planning and medical content strategy, rather than executing AI use case-by-case
  • Work closely with Medical Strategy to ensure alignment of content with core scientific narrative for Nuvation Bio’s products
  • Lead multiple projects at once and ensure work is developed and delivered on time
  • Demonstrate a high level of comfort articulating scientific and therapeutic information in lung cancer and neuro-oncology
  • Actively support new business opportunities by researching scientific literature
  • Contributing to additional scientific communications initiatives as the pipeline evolves and organizational needs shift.
