This is advanced executive-level work of a difficult and diverse nature, responsible for the overall management of the Office of Homeland Security/Code Compliance (OHS/CC) Division. It is professional and administrative work in directing a Countywide program to enforce Property Maintenance, Use & Occupancy, Housing, and Zoning codes and laws. Work includes the responsibility for interpreting and recommending changes in legal provisions governing the inspection and enforcement of such codes, ordinances, and regulations. The incumbent serves as the County's Chief Housing Inspector and supervises and directs a staff of professional and administrative personnel. General direction is received from the Director and Deputy Director of the Department. The incumbent must be capable of accomplishing tasks with minimum guidance from the Deputy Director. This position requires the incumbent to be physically and medically capable of working both inside and outside in extreme weather conditions (heat/cold, wet/humid, show/ice and or dry/arid conditions). The incumbent is required to be both mentally and physically capable of remaining in a stationary position, either sitting at a computer, standing at a service counter or in a mobile position as deemed necessary. This position requires the incumbent to be capable of lifting, pulling, or carrying items weighing more than five (5) pounds, as well as moving office supplies and equipment weighing up to thirty (30) pounds. This is an essential public safety position.
