About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Accounting, the Associate Director/Director, SOX will be responsible for SEC reporting, technical accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance of the Company. This position requires a highly hands-on and detail-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced biotech startup environment and can operate strategically.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 10+ years of progressive accounting experience within the life sciences industry or an equivalent combination of academic and industry experience
  • CPA with public accounting experience required
  • Extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC rules and regulation and SOX compliance at a publicly traded company or public accounting firm required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess excellent decision-making skills and can act and operate independently with minimal direction to accomplish objectives
  • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to balance deadlines and quality
  • Excellent capacity to prioritize effectively and stay poised in a fast-paced growth environment
  • Experience with SEC filing platforms and equity compensation systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Company’s SEC reporting process, including the preparation and timely filing of Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and other required filings, ensuring accuracy, completeness, compliance with timeliness
  • Partner cross-functionally at all levels, including Legal, Investor Relations, Business Development, R&D to ensure the accuracy and consistency of external reporting disclosures
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous evolvement of the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance framework, including risk assessment, control design and matrix, documentation, testing, remediation, and optimization as the company scales
  • Develop and lead the Company’s SOX compliance processes and ensure internal controls are adequate and operate effectively
  • Serve as U.S. GAAP technical expert and lead the accounting research effort for technical accounting issues and the preparation of the technical accounting memos
  • Establish, maintain and continuously improve accounting policies and procedures
  • Lead the evaluation and determination of the accounting impact of complex transactions and responsible for the accounting of such transactions at month-end close
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors on quarterly reviews, annual audits and SOX compliance to ensure timely and successful completion of financial statement audits
  • Partner with Legal and HR on equity administration and responsible for the accounting for share-based compensation
  • Support the preparation of annual proxy
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests as needed
