About The Position

This is a strategic, client-facing claims leadership role - not a traditional back-office position. As the Associate Director, Claims, you will work directly with sophisticated clients in specialty industries including auto dealers, towing operators, and transportation, helping drive better claims outcomes and long-term risk performance. You will oversee complex claims programs across General Liability, Garage, Auto Liability, and Workers’ Compensation, while serving as a trusted advisor to clients - leading claims reviews, identifying trends, and influencing program strategy. This role offers significant visibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to directly impact both client success and firm growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in claims management (more senior experience strongly valued)
  • Strong working knowledge of: General Liability, Auto Liability, Garage Liability & Garage Keepers, Workers’ Compensation
  • Experience working with TPAs, carriers, and legal counsel
  • Proven ability to lead claims reviews and communicate effectively with clients
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience handling or overseeing claims for auto dealers, dealer groups, or related industries
  • Familiarity with dealer-specific exposures such as: Garage Keepers losses, Dealer open lot risk, False pretense claims, Test drive and customer vehicle incidents
  • Experience working with going transportation accounts
  • Background in captive insurance or self-insured programs
  • Professional designations (CPCU, ARM, or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all claims activity from intake through resolution across assigned clients and captive programs
  • Lead regular (monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly) claims review meetings with clients, TPAs, and internal stakeholders
  • Analyze claim trends, identify cost drivers, and develop actionable strategies to reduce loss frequency and severity
  • Oversee third-party administrators, adjusters, and legal counsel to ensure efficient and effective claims handling
  • Review and manage complex claims typical to auto dealer operations, including: Customer vehicle damage (Garage Keepers), Test drive incidents, Employee-related auto losses, Premises liability exposures
  • Develop and implement claims handling protocols and best practices for clients
  • Monitor reserving accuracy, litigation trends, and claim lifecycle performance
  • Produce reports and dashboards highlighting KPIs (claim closure rates, severity trends, litigation rates)
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance, quality control, and regulatory adherence
  • Provide guidance and training to clients and internal teams on claims reporting and risk mitigation
  • Support claims strategy for both captive and non-captive programs
