About The Position

The Associate Director for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences of the UNT Career Center serves in a centralized work environment with a decentralized model. The Career Coaching Teams are located in the office of the College on the main Denton Campus. The Career Center offers comprehensive services directly to students including career decision making, internship preparation and advising, job search and professional development. The Career Center works in partnership and collaborates closely with the CLASS and PAHS Colleges and academic departments on career and professional development and provides tailored services to meet the needs of students, faculty and staff. The staff of the Career Center are part of the larger professional development program of the Colleges and supports career readiness course instruction. The CLASS and PAHS staff in the Career Center supports employer relation engagement through career fairs and recruiting activities. The Associate Director for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences of the UNT Career Center reports to the Senior Associate Director and collaborates on the management and delivery of career services to students and academic partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of career advising and development
  • Knowledge of University operations, policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of computer technology and applications in the career services field
  • Ability to deal tactfully with students, individually and in group situations
  • Excellent presentation and counseling skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to lead, develop, and coordinate the work of team members
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Career Counseling or related field with 3-5 years of experience in a career services office.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Knowledge of student first year initiatives and best practices, resources, theories, job search techniques and technologies.
  • Previous experience working with students.
  • Previous planning, organization, and program development and administration.
  • Previous experience with assessment and metrics.
  • Prior supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and oversees career education, professional development, and Career Coaching initiatives for assigned colleges' students; develops, implements, and continuously improves programs and processes to expand service reach and enhance student outcomes.
  • Provides comprehensive career and professional advising to students and alumni, including career exploration, job search strategies, and professional development.
  • Collaborates with assigned colleges on the support of existing and implementation of new professional development initiatives for students.
  • Maintain strategic working relationships with key stakeholders, including the central Career Center team, college administrators, faculty, and external employers and partners.
  • Hires, trains, supervise, and evaluates a team of professional full-time staff that conducts career coaching appointments, and seminars/workshops relating to career development. decision making, job searches and professional development.
  • Assists in the collection of all assessment data related to career coaching and workshops as well as the development of short- and long-term goals for the CLASS and PAHS Career Education Team.
