About The Position

The New York Post is seeking an Associate Digital Sports Editor/Producer to join its Digital Production team. This team is responsible for optimizing every story that goes live on the website, focusing on headlines, visuals, videos, and story builds to ensure they meet The Post's high standards. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of an iconic media brand experiencing significant online growth.

Requirements

  • At least 1-2 years of experience as a sports website producer or editor in a fast-paced online newsroom.
  • Strong editorial judgment and communication skills, with a proven ability to prioritize and package stories that drive digital engagement.
  • Hands-on experience with WordPress or a similar CMS.
  • Knowledge of all sports, especially New York teams, and a strong interest in the city’s sports culture.
  • Ability to write sharp, web-friendly headlines optimized for both readers and search engines.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with SEO best practices and how they inform digital publishing strategy.
  • Experience using analytics tools to monitor performance in real time and adjust story framing, placement, and packaging accordingly.
  • Familiarity with the New York Post’s writing style and a willingness to adapt to our fast-paced, dynamic newsroom.
  • Ability to leverage visuals, multimedia, and social media to enhance stories and maximize reach.
  • Comfort working in a highly collaborative environment with editors, reporters, and digital producers.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and produce stories from The Post’s award-winning staff of writers and columnists.
  • Handle breaking news and be able to write and/or produce stories for quick publication to remain competitive.
  • Pitch and write stories by closely monitoring social media sites and other news organizations.
  • Send multi-platform alerts to amplify coverage.
  • Live-blog coverage of major sports events.
  • Find various ways to promote the staff’s in-depth reporting and strong takes.
  • Program the sports homepage, balancing the most important, engaging, and attention-grabbing stories.
  • Produce vibrant stories quickly and accurately, working independently.
  • Use analytics to guide decisions while prioritizing the needs of the core audience.
