Reporting to the Dean, College of Science and Health, the Associate Dean, School of Nursing, collaborates with the Dean of the College of Science and Health and the Chairperson to provide leadership and vision for the development, growth, quality, and continuous improvement of the School’s academic programs. The Associate Dean provides leadership for accreditation and regulatory compliance, student success and progression, clinical education and healthcare partnerships, faculty and staff development, and strategic planning. The position establishes and maintains effective partnerships with healthcare providers to ensure high-quality clinical experiences, support workforce-aligned curriculum development, strengthen student outcomes, and advance the School’s accreditation and strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Terminal Degree in nursing, such as PhD, Ed. D or DNP in Nursing
  • New Jersey Nursing licensure or ability to gain licensure within 6 (six) months of onboarding
  • Minimum of five years of experience in academic nursing programs
  • Strong understanding of nursing education and administration
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Exhibits initiative, enthusiasm, and teamwork in accomplishing responsibilities
  • Fosters a departmental climate that supports collegiality and professional development of students, faculty, and staff

Responsibilities

  • Ensures quality for the School of Nursing programs by working with the Chair and faculty to maintain professional accreditation with CCNE, New Jersey Board of Nursing, and other relevant agencies; Oversees preparation, submission, and correspondence related to accreditation and re-accreditation of the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral nursing programs, including, but not limited to: Self-study for all programs to the CCNE, Self-study to the NJ Board of Nursing of the undergraduate pre-licensure programs, Continuous Improvement Reports (CIPR), and Substantive change reports to CCNE.
  • Represents the School of Nursing when serving on internal and external councils and committees and attending functions.
  • Assists in identifying external members for the Nursing Advisory Committee; organizes and chairs meetings of the Nursing Advisory Committee at least twice a year.
  • Actively pursues grants and outside funding sources for major projects, research, curriculum enhancement, and equipment.
  • Participates in the implementation/revision of University, College, & School of Nursing Strategic Plans and maintains a Strategic Plan for the School of Nursing.
  • Engages with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Registrar, and other appropriate offices to develop and receive relevant program data, reports, and schedules; monitors nursing data for alignment with the Key Performance Indicators of the University.
  • Recommends and monitors nursing program budgets in Collaboration with the Dean of COSH.
  • Collaborates with the Chairperson to recommend to the Dean the reappointments of qualified nursing staff as related to professional development.
  • Collaborates with the Chairperson to assess the effectiveness of nursing student admissions processes and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Establishes and monitors academic standards for all nursing programs in Collaboration with the faculty.
  • Assists in the resolution of student complaints or issues concerning academic standards, instruction, grades, and program requirements.
  • Serves as a custodian of all academic integrity violation records for Nursing students.
  • Represents School of Nursing on the university’s Students of Concern Committee.
  • Represents the School of Nursing on open houses, accepted students’ day, and new student orientations.
  • Provides and monitors the effectiveness of orientation programs for new full-time, part-time, and adjunct nursing faculty and non-tenure track teaching professionals.
  • Maintains currency of knowledge in nursing by attending state and national meetings of nursing educators and administrators.
  • Encourages and supports articulation with community colleges when appropriate.
  • Serves as liaison between faculty and offices such as Registrar, Admissions, Student Accounts, and Student Enrollment Services.
  • Supervises professional staff assigned to the nursing programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and appropriate for the position.
