About The Position

The Associate Dean of Instructional Technology and Innovation provides leadership for instructional technology initiatives that support teaching, learning, and student success across the College. This position coordinates and advances the effective use of instructional technologies, artificial intelligence applications, distance education, faculty development, and digital learning strategies. The Associate Dean collaborates with academic divisions, faculty, and administrative departments to promote innovative instructional practices, ensure quality online learning experiences, and support the College’s strategic goals related to technology-enhanced education.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in higher education instruction is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in instructional technology, distance education, or a related area is required.
  • Experience working with learning management systems, online learning environments, faculty training, and instructional technologies is required.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the College’s mission, vision, and community college philosophy.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and exercise professional judgment.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology, digital learning environments, and emerging educational technologies.
  • Knowledge of online learning standards, best practices, and distance education regulations.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence applications and their appropriate use in higher education instruction.
  • Ability to develop and implement faculty training and professional development initiatives.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and technology personnel.
  • Ability to evaluate instructional technologies and recommend effective implementation strategies.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for instructional technology initiatives and innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Assist faculty and instructional divisions in implementing effective and responsible uses of artificial intelligence in instructional delivery and student engagement.
  • Lead institutional efforts related to digital learning, instructional innovation, and emerging educational technologies.
  • Develop recommendations, policies, procedures, and best practices related to instructional technology, online learning, and artificial intelligence usage.
  • Monitor trends and developments in higher education technology and recommend strategies for implementation.
  • Coordinate and oversee distance education and online learning initiatives for the College.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and state/federal regulations for distance education, including adherence to NC-SARA policies, reporting requirements, and institutional responsibilities.
  • Coordinate quality assurance efforts for online instruction and learning management systems.
  • Assist faculty with course design and instructional delivery methods that promote student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Plan and facilitate professional development opportunities related to instructional technology, artificial intelligence, digital pedagogy, and online instruction.
  • Provide training and support for faculty in the use of instructional technologies and digital learning tools.
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify and implement innovative teaching strategies and classroom technologies.
  • Promote ethical, responsible, and effective use of artificial intelligence in academic settings.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology personnel regarding instructional technology infrastructure and classroom technology needs.
  • Assist with evaluation, selection, and implementation of instructional software and digital learning platforms.
  • Coordinate initiatives related to learning management systems, classroom technologies, and instructional software applications.
  • Serve on institutional committees related to academic technology, distance education, and strategic planning.
  • Collect and analyze data related to online learning, instructional technology usage, and student success outcomes.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to instructional technology and distance education initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards and applicable regulations for digital instructional content.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction, Vice President of Instruction and Student Services, or the President.
