About The Position

We’re seeking a strategic and forward thinking academic leader who will play a pivotal role in providing academic leadership to the School of Nursing within the Health, Wellness & Sciences portfolio. The Associate Dean will champion high standards of academic excellence, ensure outstanding program delivery and lead evidence informed enhancements that keep programs current, innovative, and responsive to evolving labor markets, technology, and professional practice expectations. This also includes championing scholarly and research activities while strengthening community engagement and external partnerships that enrich learning experiences, support innovation, and enhance opportunities for students and faculty. With a strong understanding of the post secondary health education landscape, the Associate Dean will advance college wide academic priorities and cultivate a collaborative and engaged team culture centered around shared commitment to student success. This role requires a leader with strong decision making skills, sound judgement, and a high level of accountability. Requirements

  • Academic nurse leader with a minimum of a master’s degree (PhD preferred) in a field related to health/health education and progressive leadership experience.
  • Must possess and maintain current registration, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Knowledge and background in the Health, Wellness & Sciences industry
  • A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in an academic and / or industry setting
  • Experience with academic processes and procedures (including curriculum development, teaching and learning styles and techniques, complaint procedures, program reviews, collective agreements, etc.)
  • Project management experience with demonstrated analytical and organizational skills to be able to manage multiple projects in an effective and timely manner
  • Communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills in order to build and cultivate relationships with a variety of internal and external partners and manage difficult situations with diplomacy and tact
  • Ability to identify, address and resolve problems or conflicts in an efficient and diplomatic manner
  • Experience developing, managing and monitoring budgets
  • Demonstrated community connections and networking experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially in a unionized environment
  • Ability to lead effectively in organizational change management

Responsibilities

  • Providing academic leadership that cultivates a strong, collaborative team culture grounded in creativity, innovation, academic excellence, continuous improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ensuring program quality through ongoing curriculum review, program evaluation, and compliance with internal and external quality assurance frameworks and alignment with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Supporting development of new programs that respond to emerging market needs, technology trends, and community/industry priorities.
  • Making informed, timely decisions that support academic integrity, operational effectiveness, and student and faculty experience.
  • Overseeing budgets, resource planning, enrolment projections, and financial stewardship to ensure responsible and strategic use of resources.
  • Managing workload assignments, scheduling considerations, and operational processes in accordance with college policies and collective agreements.
  • Recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, evaluating, faculty and support faculty within the academic area.
  • Ensuring assignments, expectations, and performance align with academic priorities and collective agreement provisions.
  • Overseeing budgets, resource planning, enrolment projections, and financial stewardship to ensure responsible and strategic use of resources
  • Driving fiscal responsibility and accuracy in developing, monitoring, reporting obligations while ensuring that the financial targets are met
  • Ensuring OHS compliance by overseeing health and safety responsibilities for all employees and students, supported by strong risk management practices.
  • Overseeing teaching and learning practices to ensure achievement of program outcomes and student success.
  • Creating conditions that encourage faculty engagement in applied research, scholarship, and evidence informed practice and facilitating opportunities for student involvement in research and innovation activities.
  • Promoting the integration of current scholarship and industry best practice into curriculum and teaching.
  • Promoting ongoing professional learning, teaching excellence, and role clarity.
  • Fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment across all program areas, supported by open and transparent communication.
  • Building strong relationships with faculty, support staff, academic leadership, and cross college partners to support collective goals and initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively on the development and implementation of the academic area’s operational plan in alignment with the academic direction and Georgian’s strategic plan
  • Addressing issues involving faculty, staff, and students through fair, consistent, and collaborative approaches to conflict resolution
  • Building and sustain effective relationships with industry, sector partners, community organizations, professional associations, and advisory committees.
  • Identifying opportunities for collaboration, experiential learning, research partnerships, and pathways that enhance student experience and employability.
  • Representing the college externally to strengthen Georgian’s reputation and visibility
