About The Position

This is an internal opportunity for current UML Employees. The Associate Dean for Teaching & Undergraduate Studies is a key member of the Kennedy College of Sciences' senior leadership team, responsible for the strategic direction and operational management of the College's teaching and undergraduate education. This role advises the Dean, develops and implements initiatives to enhance the undergraduate student experience, improve academic quality, support faculty in teaching, and ensure the College adapts to changing educational needs. The Associate Dean oversees academic programs, student success, curriculum, assessment, accreditation, and policy implementation, ensuring the College meets its strategic goals and maintains high academic standards. This position also acts as a liaison between faculty, department leadership, students, and university administration to foster collaboration and support decision-making.

Requirements

Terminal degree in the Sciences/Engineering fields or in a closely related field.
Tenured Associate or Full Professor or NTT Teaching Professor with senior leadership experience in an academic institution.
Strong communication skills.

Ability to work with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary liaison with the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs on matters related to undergraduate education.
Provide leadership and management of high-impact educational initiatives that impact student success, in collaboration with relevant campus offices.
Manage the portfolio of existing undergraduate programs with department chairs and faculty committees, making recommendations regarding accreditation and program closure.
Lead the design, development, approval, and deployment of new undergraduate majors, minors, and certificate programs within the College, working with departments and interdisciplinary faculty.
Ensure the continuous improvement of teaching pedagogy used by instructors in the college, in collaboration with faculty.
Design and implement programs to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for a diversified student body, working with the advising office.
Develop and manage educational initiatives coordinated through the College, such as career-connected experiences, first-year programs, interdisciplinary programs, and service-learning.
Identify barriers to student success and propose solutions, working with the office of Data Analytics and Institutional Research (DAIR).
Design, manage, and implement initiatives to enhance undergraduate student enrollment, retention, and graduation rates, working with DAIR.
Make recommendations to the Dean regarding resource allocation for student success.
Provide leadership and oversight of initiatives related to outreach to K-12 and Community Colleges.
Develop, deploy, and manage endeavors such as internships, co-ops, study-abroad, and other external experiential programs, working with departments and other groups.
Provide input to the Dean on hiring and P&T matters, in collaboration with the KCS Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies.
Supervise and evaluate administrative and support staff within the student success division.
Oversee the management of student clubs and organizations, competitions, and honor societies.
Serve as the College’s liaison with partners in the Office of Student Affairs or equivalent on matters related to undergraduate students.
Represent the Dean at University-level executive meetings when appropriate.
Represent the Kennedy College of Sciences at events with students, parents, and the community.
Maintain scholarly activities.
