•$80,000 - $120,000•Onsite

About The Position

MITRE’s Systems Performance and Evaluation Department addresses critical challenges in delivering services to citizens across defense and intelligence, aviation, homeland security, the judiciary, healthcare, and cybersecurity. The Associate Data Scientist will apply and develop data science and analytical capabilities to support nationally important solutions and federal agency missions. The role combines analytical, mathematical, data science, and systems engineering work to support the analysis, design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and systems-of-systems, as well as mission analysis. The role applies methods and tools spanning data science, machine learning, data analytics, model-based systems engineering, digital engineering, mission engineering, and mathematical modeling. The position supports requirements, architecture, design, performance assessment, verification and testing, and systems modernization across government-sponsored projects. The candidate will work in a variable environment and may support multiple projects within small to large teams. The position requires a minimum of three days per week on-site.

  • Typically requires less than one year of related experience with a related bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, software engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with programming languages and analytical tools such as Python and MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering (DE) concepts.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data analysis, and modeling.
  • Interest in complex, multidisciplinary data and analytical problems.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new tools and concepts in a variable environment of government sponsors.

Nice To Haves

  • Active clearance; preference is given to qualified candidates with an active clearance.
  • Advanced degree in a related field of study.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary modeling and simulation at the physics, engineering, and/or socio-technical level.
  • Experience with Digital Engineering integration through an internship, research, or academic projects.

Responsibilities

  • Use understanding of data science, systems and mission engineering, quantitative methods, and sponsor needs to identify areas where MITRE can contribute.
  • Apply data science, machine learning, data analytics, model-based systems engineering, digital engineering, mission engineering, and mathematical modeling to assess capability needs, requirements, architectures, designs, performance constraints and gaps, proposed changes, and verification and test approaches.
  • Evaluate and compare alternative architectures and approaches using qualitative and quantitative techniques, explore large trade-spaces, and analyze trade-offs.
  • Identify and develop metrics and analytical methods to measure and analyze system and data properties such as robustness, resiliency, interoperability, quality, and maintainability.
  • Support requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes.
  • Perform data analysis, modeling, and system design and development, including software development, systems modernization, and architecture.
  • Support multiple tasks across several government-sponsored projects in small- to large-team environments.
