The recently formed Architecture team is responsible for developing designs, patterns, policies, and frameworks to maximize the value of data. This includes defining data capture in front-end systems, structuring and storing data for business outcomes, developing consistent data interpretation policies, and scaling data quality across the organization.

Requirements

  • At least 3-4 years of experience in data-related design and/or build work.
  • Experience working with data models and enterprise data lake/warehouse initiatives (or a background in Software Engineering).
  • Experience in data analysis, data integration, and data governance.
  • Familiarity with Azure integration patterns, including APIs and event streaming.
  • Understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) concepts and strategies.
  • Exposure to Cloud Data Platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake, with hands-on experience.
  • Understanding of entity-relationship modelling, metadata systems, and data quality tools and techniques.
  • Ability to think strategically and relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business needs and client culture.
  • Curious personality, driven and keen to learn and develop.
  • Exceptional communication skills for collaborating with business stakeholders and the technology organization.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of audiences and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, adapt to business priorities, re-factor plans as needed, and communicate the impact of changes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and proven ability to win confidence and influence outcomes.
  • Strong ability to work with technical teams and multiple work streams with dynamic priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of insurance industry data and information needs of the underwriting function within (Re) Insurance.
  • Experience in UK, Bermuda, and US markets.
  • Technical knowledge around technology and tools used in support of data architecture and data governance.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively design the AXIS data estate and accompanying frameworks and standards to enable optimal data utilization for maximizing organizational profit.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to translate business outcomes into executable designs and patterns for developers and technical experts, acting as a translation point throughout delivery to minimize technical debt.
  • Build policies and frameworks for data architecture working practices to ensure consistency and scalability of solutions.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop conceptual and logical data models describing key concepts in the AXIS data estate, ensuring their utilization in new systems and data repositories.
  • Leverage expertise in APIs and data integration to support proof-of-concepts (POCs), evaluate emerging technologies, and translate outcomes into robust Data Solution Designs.
  • Support stakeholders in navigating solution designs through governance forums, including D&A and architectural review boards.
  • Contribute to the build and maintenance of a central data governance and data quality solution.
  • Contribute to the build and maintenance of the master and reference data management strategy and approach, implementing it across the organization in a consistent, scalable manner.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of data architecture practices and serve as a technical expert.
  • Proactively engage with and understand the group strategy, providing input for improvements to the AXIS data strategy to align with business goals.
  • Simplify the existing data architecture, delivering reusable services and cost-saving opportunities in line with company policies and standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies for data management, storage, and analytics.
  • May be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities, and activities appropriate to the nature of the role.
