About The Position

GEICO is looking to hire an Associate Counsel, PIP to defend arbitrations and lawsuits filed in New York and other first party insurance defense. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel located in New York. The role involves researching laws, preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda, rendering opinions on coverage, medical necessity/causation, damages, and value, and preparing and handling arbitration submissions, examinations under oath, and defending by trial or dispositive hearing, all matters assigned, as applicable.

Requirements

2 to 6+ years of experience in litigation
Juris Doctor degree
Admission to the New York Bar
Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable
Must be able to travel as required, including but not limited, to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences
Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner, to be understood by customers, clients, co-workers and other employees of the organization
Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills
Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
Must be able to communicate in a professional manner in person, via telephone and written correspondence/email

Nice To Haves

Civil litigation experience
Insurance defense-related litigation experience and/or personal injury

Responsibilities
