Associate Concept Designer

Tuckernuck Inc•Washington, DC
•$65,000 - $75,000

About The Position

The Associate Concept Designer supports the development and execution of Tuckernuck’s seasonal creative concepts. Sitting within the Concept team and reporting to the Chief Creative Officer, this role helps translate seasonal ideas into a clear visual world that inspires and guides Design, Fashion, Buying, Merchandising, Creative, Editorial, and Styling. This is a highly visual, hands-on role that combines creative research and concept development with the organization and coordination required to bring a concept to life. The ideal candidate is both highly organized and system-oriented and endlessly curious about fashion, art, interiors, travel, culture, vintage, color, and design—and loves both finding inspiration and making ideas happen.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in fashion, concept design, creative direction, fashion design, styling, editorial, or a related creative field.
  • Exceptional visual taste and a strong instinct for color, proportion, imagery, materials, and composition.
  • Deep interest in fashion and culture, with curiosity that extends beyond fashion into art, interiors, travel, photography, history, and design.
  • Strong research skills and an ability to find unexpected, specific, and inspiring references.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and/or Figma; experience building visual presentations is essential.
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing both creative work and detailed logistics.
  • Comfortable working with physical materials—fabric, vintage garments, books, prints, objects, and presentation boards—not solely digitally.
  • Collaborative, resourceful, proactive, and energized by a fast-moving creative environment.
  • Able to take broad creative direction and turn it into thoughtful, beautifully executed work.

Responsibilities

  • Support seasonal concept development through research across fashion, art, interiors, photography, architecture, travel, film, vintage, and culture.
  • Organize and sometimes source compelling imagery, vintage references, textiles, trims, objects, books, and other materials that help communicate the seasonal point of view.
  • Assist in developing mood boards, color stories, material direction, print and pattern inspiration, styling references, and other visual concept materials.
  • Help identify connections between references and turn broad inspiration into a cohesive creative story.
  • Research historical and cultural references and provide context behind imagery and ideas.
  • Stay curious about emerging fashion, design, cultural, and visual trends.
  • Organize and combine ideas from founders, designers, the fashion team, and the Chief creative office throughout the year and season.
  • Help build and refine seasonal concept presentations and physical concept boards.
  • Create clean, compelling layouts that communicate ideas clearly across imagery, color, materials, and product references.
  • Prepare imagery, swatches, vintage pieces, samples, and other materials for concept reviews and presentations.
  • Work closely with the Concept Director to evolve presentations based on CCO and CEO feedback.
  • Receive vintage prints and pieces, create and or maintain an archiving system.
  • Imagine setups that go beyond the bulletin board: build tables, flower displays, immersive experiences as directed by the Concept team.
  • Own the organization and logistics behind the seasonal concept process.
  • Maintain concept calendars, deadlines, meeting materials, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate requests to Merchandising, Design, Fashion, Buying, Creative, and other teams for materials needed for concept presentations.
  • Organize concept rooms and ensure presentations are prepared and ready for reviews.
  • Track samples, vintage pieces, fabrics, books, imagery, and other physical materials being used throughout the process.
  • Document decisions and distribute final concept direction to relevant teams.
  • Partner with the Creative Archivist to maintain an organized and inspiring physical and digital reference library.
  • Catalog seasonal concepts, imagery, color palettes, materials, vintage references, and past presentations.
  • Help source and acquire pieces that should become part of the permanent creative archive.
  • Make sure previous work and references are easy to find and actively used as inspiration for future seasons.
  • Partner closely with Design as concept direction is translated into product.
  • Work with the Fashion team on trend, market, and customer insights that inform seasonal direction.
  • Coordinate with Creative, Editorial, Styling, Buying, and Merchandising to gather input and ensure teams understand the final concept.
  • Help maintain consistency of the concept as it moves from initial inspiration into product and storytelling.
