About The Position

The Associate plays a critical role in supporting relationship teams across Technology & Innovation Banking by contributing to credit analysis, portfolio management, deal execution, and client engagement. Working closely with Directors and Analysts, the Associate helps evaluate financing opportunities, structure credit solutions, monitor portfolio performance, and support new business development efforts as BMO expands its presence in the Canadian innovation economy.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2–5 years of financial services experience in commercial lending, corporate banking, credit analysis, or relevant capital markets roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including the ability to assess credit risk and technology‑sector metrics.
  • Demonstrated interest in the technology sector and high‑growth, innovation‑driven businesses.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time‑management skills; ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Team‑oriented mindset, with a commitment to collaboration and supporting the development of junior talent.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving abilities, and sound judgment in assessing risk and client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support Directors in preparing credit recommendations, including analysis of risk, deal structure, and client requirements for technology clients.
  • Lead due diligence and financial analysis for current and prospective clients; contribute to risk rating assessments and credit structuring.
  • Manage portfolio review activities, including annual reviews, interim monitoring, compliance tracking, and identification of emerging risks.
  • Participate in client calls, meetings, and site visits as a key member of the relationship team.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support assessment of SaaS metrics, recurring revenue profiles, growth forecasts, covenant structures, and borrowing capacity.
  • Review credit documentation for alignment with approved terms and ensure accuracy and completeness of credit files.
  • Monitor industry trends, portfolio metrics, and client performance to identify risks, opportunities, and recommendations for capital allocation.
  • Collaborate with partners across Commercial Banking, Capital Markets, and Wealth Management to identify cross‑sell and revenue opportunities.
  • Support sales activities including pitch materials, prospect analysis, and preparation of client packages.
  • Maintain adherence to commercial lending processes, compliance requirements, audit standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to a strong team culture grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
