About The Position

Mortenson is currently seeking an Associate Buyer - Solar that will be responsible for working with project teams and suppliers to purchase materials, supplies, equipment and services. This role involves establishing and maintaining relationships with suppliers, soliciting bids, analyzing quotations, interviewing prospective suppliers, and selecting suppliers. The Associate Buyer will also evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, and delivery time, and work with management to develop profitable purchasing strategies and propose procurement solutions that deliver value and reduce risk. Key responsibilities include creating and maintaining procurement logs, negotiating prices and terms, preparing purchase agreements and orders, and ensuring supplier adherence to contractual terms. The role also requires analyzing markets, managing budgets, increasing margins, tracking purchasing trends, monitoring order status, and visiting project sites to understand challenges and streamline procurement processes. Leading special projects and effectively working with diverse individuals are also essential aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures
  • Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills
  • Strong customer service and analytical skills
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • Current driver’s license
  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status, 0-1, TN, CPT, OPT, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers: solicit bids, analyze quotations, interview prospective suppliers, and select suppliers
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, and delivery time
  • Work with manager to develop profitable purchasing strategies and propose procurement solutions that deliver value and reduce risk
  • Create and maintain procurement logs for each supported operating group project
  • Negotiate with suppliers to purchase items and services at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, and specification requirements
  • Negotiate and prepare purchase agreements and purchase orders.
  • Ensure suppliers adhere to contractual terms and conditions, including timeliness and quality standards
  • Analyze individual markets, handle budget and increase margin on a regular basis, track trends in purchasing habits
  • Track order status from time of placing order until delivery and communicate status to project teams
  • Visit project site to better understand project team challenges and develop streamlined procurement processes to be implemented
  • Lead special projects for team as requested
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
