About The Position

We are seeking an Associate, Code Engineering to join our growing team in Toronto. This is an intermediate-level role ideal for a proactive and analytical professional looking to deepen their technical expertise in building and fire code consulting. In this role, you will manage your own projects while supporting senior consultants on more complex assignments. You will be responsible for conducting code reviews, preparing technical reports, and working closely with clients and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4-10 years of experience in building and fire code compliance consulting.
  • Proficiency with relevant codes and standards (NBC, NFC, OBC, OFC) and industry standards (NFPA, CAN/ULC, CSA) is required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Experience reviewing architectural drawings and technical documentation for code compliance
  • Proficiency in preparing clear, concise technical reports
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate across teams
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of accountability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • P.Eng. designation or eligibility for registration is considered an asset.
  • experience with Bluebeam or similar tools is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned projects, including reviewing documentation, preparing reports, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Conduct building and fire code consulting and review design documentation for compliance
  • Communicate with clients via phone, email, and written correspondence to provide guidance and updates
  • Attend meetings with clients, stakeholders, and AHJs to discuss project requirements
  • Support senior consultants on complex projects and contribute to best practices
  • Provide peer review and technical support to junior consultants
  • Assist in proposal preparation in collaboration with senior staff and the Proposal Coordinator
  • Support project billing activities, including timesheets and invoice coordination
  • Stay current with industry standards through training, conferences, and ongoing learning
  • Contribute to team development through mentoring, process improvement, or technical specialization
