About The Position

As an Associate (Mid-level) Biologist, you will serve as a key team member co-managing and supporting habitat restoration projects, biological surveys, impacts analysis (with supervision), and environmental compliance. Show experience in implementing habitat restoration mitigation and monitoring plans and monitoring for habitat restoration success. Must be able to identify common local vegetation types including both native and non-native plant species in a variety of habitats throughout California. Familiarity with botanical data collection procedures (e.g., point/line intercept transects, quadrat sampling, CRAM, wetland delineation), statistical design and analysis, interpretation, and document presentation. This mid-level role requires competence in GIS technologies and drone operations and collaboration with cross-functional teams and clients. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an environmental field required.
  • Approximately 4-9 years of experience in biological tasks in environmental consulting.
  • Proficient with MS Office & related software to complete reports, etc.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate initiative, independent thinking, good problem-solving skills, excellent field skills, and educational background in plant biology.
  • Possess ability to work independently and as a team member, and exemplary work habits, especially related to safety, common sense, punctuality, and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong relationships with clients and confidence in consulting with contractors, agencies, and regulators.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key team member co-managing and supporting habitat restoration projects, biological surveys, impacts analysis (with supervision), and environmental compliance.
  • Implement habitat restoration mitigation and monitoring plans and monitor for habitat restoration success.
  • Identify common local vegetation types including both native and non-native plant species in a variety of habitats throughout California.
  • Perform botanical data collection procedures (e.g., point/line intercept transects, quadrat sampling, CRAM, wetland delineation), statistical design and analysis, interpretation, and document presentation.
  • Utilize GIS technologies and drone operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Demonstrate technical skills in restoration, plant ecology, or botany and strong knowledge of California plant species and ecosystems.
  • Implement habitat restoration plans and habitat mitigation and monitoring plans, and associated matrices for tracking compliance.
  • Perform construction monitoring, compliance reporting, and worker environmental awareness training.
  • Identify bird species both by sight and sound.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with federal and state regulations, including CEQA/NEPA, CDFW Code, Clean Water Act, MBTA, and Endangered Species Act.
  • Manage and implement project mitigation requirements, coordinating with project team and construction supervisors, and maintaining schedules as it relates to construction or habitat restoration progress.
  • Author Biological Resource Evaluation with little oversight.
  • Mentor entry-level staff with enthusiasm.
  • Travel throughout the state and regionally, including to and work in rugged terrain during inclement weather.
  • Assist with administrative duties, such as training to meet project requirements.
  • Execute UAV missions, including pre-flight planning, airspace analysis, equipment selection under the guidance of the Senior GIS Analyst.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, client presentations, and scope-of-work development for biological services.
