Associate Backend Software Engineer, Phantom Works
About The Position
The Boeing Company is seeking an Associate Backend Software Engineer (Level 2) to lead their Model-Based Engineering (MBE) software team. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense Services (BDS) business organization. The role involves developing prototypes and new capabilities for web-applications and services, including designing APIs, creating data processing and analytics pipelines, optimizing SQL queries, and building production-ready infrastructure. The engineer will help shape the architecture and infrastructure for prototypes and minimum-viable products to become production-ready. This may include researching and selecting technologies, building reliable and performant server applications, and ensuring scalability. The position can evolve into a full-stack role if desired.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
- 2+ years of experience in backend software development
- 2+ years of experience with Go, Java, JavaScript, Python, or equivalent server language
- 2+ years of experience with databases using SQL or PL/SQL
- Experience with or working knowledge of concurrent computing and experience developing multi-threaded or multi-process software applications
- Exposure to Agile process

- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 2+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 6+ years of directly related work experience OR 10+ years of related, relevant experience
- Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance
- Strong experience with JavaScript frameworks: NodeJS, ReactJS
- Strong experience with Go or Java
- Basic experience with C++
- Experience with GitLab, CI / CD, Docker, Kubernetes
- Experience with Kafka, NiFi, Redis, or RabbitMQ
- Experience developing RESTful APIs for complex datasets
- Experience leading projects
- AWS cloud experience
- 3+ years of experience in infrastructure development
- Understanding microservices, client-server architecture, event-driven architecture, domain-driven design (DDD), and other modern architectural styles to build robust and adaptable systems
- Experience in large-scale software system architecture, design, and development of distributed/on-premises end-to-end scalable software
Responsibilities

- Create test-suites for server applications to verify reliability, performance, and behavior.
