Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of relevant California managed care experience.
  • Strong contract drafting background.
  • Specific experience in or a demonstrated interest in managed care operations and policy.
  • Highest level of practical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral presentation and argument ability.
  • Client relations acumen.
  • Ability to work in a team environment that demands both legal precision and strategic business insight.
  • Admission to the California bar, or eligibility to be admitted.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day legal advice and counsel to health plans (including local health plans and restricted Knox-Keene (RKK) licensees), independent practice associations (IPAs), providers, payors, and vendors on a broad range of managed care matters.
  • Advise on federal and California regulatory compliance, including Knox-Keene Act licensure and oversight by the Department of Managed Health Care, as well as Medi-Cal managed care requirements administered by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the federal Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS).
  • Draft and negotiate provider network participation, downstream, and ancillary services agreements.
  • Counsel clients on coverage, reimbursement, value-based care, and risk-sharing arrangements.
  • Advise accountable care organizations (ACOs) participating in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) models, and other CMMI demonstration programs.
  • Support Medicare Advantage and dual eligible special needs plan (D-SNP) clients on regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters.
