About The Position

The Associate Attorney represents TMLF and its creditor clients in Hawaii in pre-litigation, settlement, foreclosure, bankruptcy, eviction, and light litigation matters. The attorney travels from home to Circuit Court and U.S. District Court as needed, and appears remotely in U.S. Bankruptcy Court and in Circuit Courts on the outer islands. The attorney carries out case strategies set by the Managing Attorney while making tactical decisions on individual matters within supervision guidelines.

Requirements

Juris Doctorate.
Hawaii Bar license in good standing.
At least 5 years of experience as an associate attorney.
Relevant technology competencies, such as Westlaw and time-billing software.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.

Nice To Haves

Background in foreclosure, title, and/or bankruptcy.

Responsibilities

Manage a high-volume individual caseload involving matters at various stages, including pre-litigation, settlement, foreclosure, bankruptcy, eviction, excess proceeds, deeds in lieu, and light litigation.
Prepare timely and accurate letters, pleadings, motions, discovery, and other filings, and advocate effectively at hearings.
Attend court hearings, mediations, and other proceedings in person or remotely as required.
Conduct initial intake and strategy analysis on newly assigned cases, and research applicable law and facts.
Make tactical decisions on individual matters within supervision guidelines.
Provide responsive client service and communicate case strategy and updates to clients.
Meet all filing and court deadlines.
Record billable work and time accurately.
Collaborate with the TMLF team on internal case processing, reporting, and tracking.
Pursue continued learning, including CLEs.
Assist with other tasks as assigned by the Managing Attorney.
