About The Position

The Associate Attorney (Insurance) will be primarily responsible for assisting the legal department in the preparation of documents to support the team in advocating for children with autism, including preparing documents relating to obtaining reimbursement for care and treatment. The principal functions of the position identified shall not be considered as a complete description of all the work requirements and expectations that may be inherent in the position. Requirements

  • The Associate Attorney (Insurance) requires a minimum of a Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited institution
  • Licensed to practice in Florida or approved as Authorized House Counsel in Florida
  • Minimum 0-2 years of experience as a practicing lawyer, with an emphasis on health care/health insurance industry issues.
  • Knowledge of state and federal law regarding health care compliance, insurance regulations and patient confidentiality laws.
  • Knowledge of state guidelines and accreditation agency standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with medical and billing coding a plus.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health issues a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Chief Legal Officer and other company attorneys to develop legal strategies in line with company values.
  • Provide advice, leadership and guidance on revenue cycle management issues, particularly in regard to appealing wrongfully denied and delayed insurance claims through the insurance carrier’s internal appeal process.
  • Oversee appeals relating to claims submitted to third party payors.
  • Draft appeals with insurance as part of the revenue cycle management process.
  • Review and negotiate single case agreements with health insurance payors.
  • Collaborate closely with admissions, utilization review and clinical staff to develop, implement, and evaluate a legally compliant screening assessment, and admissions process.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation agency requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with the state requirements/guidelines.
  • Stays current with changes in State and Federal laws and regulations in areas of insurance/third party payors and data privacy.
  • Work within the Company’s proprietary technological framework to promptly update cases and streamline case management processes, supporting enhancements within the system and ensuring the accuracy of data.
  • Assist with other ad hoc tasks to assist the Legal Department
  • On-site with minimal travel time requirement.
