About The Position

Harris Beach Murtha’s Energy Industry Team is seeking an associate to support a broad range of regulatory and litigation matters. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with team members and clients on issues related to project development and siting, regulatory compliance, enforcement proceedings, and dispute resolution. Our clients span the energy sector and include electric generation and battery storage facility owners, transmission companies, utilities (electric, gas, and water), energy service companies, submetering providers, and large commercial energy users.

Requirements

3+ years’ of general regulatory, administrative law, and/or litigation experience
Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
Admission to New York State Bar (or ability to waive in)
Strong legal research and writing skills
Excellent verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to quickly absorb and analyze new information
High attention to detail and commitment to quality work
Professional, collaborative, and adaptable approach
Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization

Responsibilities

Represent clients with regulatory matters before state and federal administrative agencies
Support project development by planning pre-application strategy, preparing and filing applications, and securing permits
Conduct legal research on federal and state statues, regulations, and agency orders, and draft memoranda
Draft a variety of legal documents, including administrative petitions, agency comments, complaints and answers, memoranda of law, and discovery materials
