About The Position

As an Associate Actuarial Director at UnitedHealth Group, you will lead complex actuarial projects that have strategic importance to our mission of helping people live healthier lives and helping to make the health system work better for everyone. It's an opportunity to help rewrite the future of UnitedHealth Group as you participate in the development of business strategy. You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance or related field
  • Credentialed Actuary (FSA or ASA)
  • 5+ years of healthcare actuarial experience with increasing leadership responsibility
  • Experience analyzing, modeling, and trending benefit and utilization data
  • Experience developing and implementing new benefit strategies, programs, policies, or procedures
  • Solid understanding of health care risk management principles and benefit operations
  • Familiarity with health plan analytics, actuarial modeling techniques, and interpretation of plan experience data
  • Advanced proficiency with data tools such as Excel/SAS/SQL/Power BI
  • Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies and opportunities within benefit programs and drive process improvements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing and conducting data analysis for Medicare Advantage bid submissions
  • Leadership experience managing projects, mentoring team members, and developing training or shared resources
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and solve complex problems efficiently
  • Proven solid presentation and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to build relationships

Responsibilities

  • Understand and interpret key drivers of health care trends
  • Assist in the development and oversight of actuarial models and forecasts to support Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans
  • Analyze large, complex financial, claims, utilization, and cost data sets to assess performance, risk, and opportunities
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for product and provider partners, finance leadership, and senior executives
  • Provide actuarial expertise and strategic recommendations to support contract negotiations, performance tracking and risk management
  • Work to improve and develop advanced analytic techniques and predictive models
  • Mentor and develop a small team of actuarial students, helping them create unique solutions to complex problems
