As an Actuarial Director at UnitedHealth Group, you can do just that. You'll lead complex actuarial projects that have strategic importance to our mission of helping people lead healthier lives and helping to make the health system work better for everyone. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Requirements

  • ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation
  • 5+ years of Actuarial experience
  • Proficiency with R, python, and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)
  • Advanced or higher level of proficiency in Excel, especially model development

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in finance or the health care industry
  • Experience communicating actuarial concepts & models to non-actuarial audiences
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience and interest in developing original quantitative work
  • Expert level proficiency with R, python, and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)
  • Advanced or higher level of proficiency in Power BI

Responsibilities

  • Understand and interpret key drivers of health care trends
  • Assist in developing analytics that serve as the foundation for actuarial medical cost forecasting
  • Translate highly complex concepts in forecasting & trends in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences including senior leaders
  • Serve as a consultant to the local markets to explain forecasted & historical trend drivers
  • Work to improve and develop advanced analytic techniques and predictive models
  • Mentor and develop a small team of actuarial students, helping them create unique solutions to complex problems
