About The Position

Columbus College of Art & Design's Advising department is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and responsible professional to help guide degree-seeking undergraduate students through their academic journeys. The Advising team is highly collaborative, providing a range of high-quality services supporting academic persistence and degree completion. This full-time position reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Success & Transition Programs as part of a four-person department. The Associate Academic Advisor provides holistic, developmental, and strength-based academic advising to degree-seeking undergraduate students in select academic majors, including Animation, Game Art & Design, and Graphic Design. This role communicates daily with students and provides expert guidance regarding academic policies, procedures, and curricular requirements. The Associate Academic Advisor interacts with the CCAD community in a manner consistent with the mission and core values of CCAD's Student Affairs Division. The role provides excellent customer service and possesses the ability to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all students. Additionally, as a member of the CARE Team, this role will also supplement the Student Affairs Division's retention efforts by intervening with academically at-risk students and providing appropriate referrals to support resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite preferred
  • Experience with SCT PowerCampus, Maxient, or other student information systems a plus
  • Knowledge and understanding of college student development theory a plus as well as having a background in art or design

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with students in a manner consistent with the mission and core values of CCAD's Student Affairs Division
  • Advises undergraduate students on degree requirements, course selection and registration, academic opportunities, major selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources on a walk-in and appointment basis
  • Coaches undergraduate students on developing their task prioritization, time management, and project planning skills.
  • Occasionally communicates with students' family members in accordance with CCAD policy
  • Maintains a close working relationship with other college offices and student support services including: Admissions, Financial Aid, Disability & Access Services, Registrar, Bursar, and Creative Careers & Collaboration.
  • Manages problems, concerns or situations in regards to students' academic experience and degree progress; advocates on students' behalf when appropriate
  • Guides students in establishing personal, academic, and career goals
  • Assumes responsibility for educating students on the registration process
  • Aids the Assistant Dean of Student Success & Transition Programs in monitoring degree progress and maintaining academic plans; participates in retention and persistence efforts through various initiatives and programs; develops intrusive outreach efforts with upperclassmen students approaching graduation, informed by data and best practices
  • Execute non-retention reporting and outreach efforts; this includes running various retention reports, data tracking, progress monitoring, and student communication
  • Collaborates with the advising team and other offices to implement proactive outreach strategies to engage students in the advising process and encourage academic persistence. These strategies may include events and workshops in residence halls, academic buildings, and other spaces on campus.
  • Assesses policies and procedures critically and makes recommendations for improvement
  • Assists in preparing reports and distributing data to members of the college community as appropriate
  • Assists students in completing the withdrawal process by conducting developmental exit interviews, processing all necessary paperwork and referrals
  • Serves as an CARE Responder for identified student concerns; engages in outreach and follow up with students and faculty
  • Coordinates internal course balancing and mass registrations (i.e., new and incoming student registration)
  • Manages a high volume of email correspondence on a daily basis
  • Completes data entry and processing of administrative forms
  • Serves on various committees and planning groups as directed by the Assistant Dean
  • Other duties as assigned
