About The Position

The Associate FP&A Analyst helps build efficient financial models, streamline processes, and strengthen the T eam's overall forecasting accuracy and efficiency. They’ll gain foundational experience in Southwest’s financial performance by analyzing results, identifying variances and trends, and gathering key inputs from d epartment p artners to update plans and forecasts. The Associate FP&A Analyst i s anal ytical and is a skilled communicator who supports Southwest’s commitment to informed decisions, operational excellence, and long‑term financial health. Requirements

  • Knowledge of financial principles and practices and the analysis and reporting of financial data
  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and communicate ideas presented in writing and/or in speaking with others
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
  • Ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Entry level experience, developing skills and knowledge in: Financial Planning & Analysis principles and practices
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Finance or financial knowledge
  • Experience in Python and Anaplan

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile invoices payments to ensure proper accruals during accounting close by pulling and analyzing GL data and preparing journal entries and supporting documentation, including account invoice coding and analyses to ensure accuracy of revenue and cost data
  • Partner with Accounting to provide input to monthly and quarterly financial close process, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely data and reporting
  • Partner with other Financial Analysts to understand key business drivers, then based on financial results document findings, insights, and implications to the overall business
  • Execute and maintain reporting for Companywide and Department financial reviews, business performance reviews, and forecasts
  • Communicate and align with Business Partners on results of business performance and economic and financial forecast changes
  • Document inputs and outputs of financial forecast scenarios
  • Audit and test financial data quality and outputs to ensure the highest degree of confidence in forecasts and reports for internal and external reporting
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
