About The Position

Work as a Facility Compliance Consultant (Surveyor) in the Adult Care Licensure Section involves regulatory activities to determine compliance with state requirements for assisted living facilities and overnight respite programs. Job responsibilities include: • Work both independently and as a member of a professional interdisciplinary health care team conducting on-site inspections of licensed adult care homes (assisted living facilities)and overnight respite programs to determine the facility’s compliance with licensure rules and statutes. • Analyzing survey findings and determining compliance with applicable rules and statutes then documenting findings in a legally defensible manner. • Providing technical assistance to facilities and potential providers. • Providing regulatory oversight and technical assistance to county Department of Social Services (DSS) staff. • Position duties involve significant oral and written communication with facilities, staff and public. Position will be home-based in the Eastern region of the state and applicants should reside in one of the following counties or adjacent counties: Wayne, Wilson, Pitt, Edgecombe, Martin, Bertie, Chowan, Craven. Those willing to relocate will also be considered. This position requires frequent travel and works in the field conducting inspections. Travel is mainly in the assigned region and requires occasional to frequent overnights depending on the inspection schedule. Position may utilize a state vehicle if available, a rental vehicle or their personal vehicle for travel. Travel expenses, including food, lodging, and transportation, are compensated by the State of North Carolina at the NC Office of State Budget and Management’s established rates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health, human service, or educational related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years’ experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and one year experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years’ experience in surveying, clinical and/or administration of a program in a related health field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience applying rules, statutes, and/or standards to ensure compliance in the area of work, including participating in or conducting state or federal surveys, compliance audits, or accreditation surveys.
  • Professional knowledge of social work/human services and practices including the delivery of care and services in a long term care setting, including: assessment and care planning; ancillary services such as home health, hospice, mental health care and residents’ rights.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write legally defensible investigation reports and clear, concise, grammatically correct correspondence.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to be able to manage and prioritize work and meet frequent deadlines.
