Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or home care setting
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Experience in providing assistance with ADL's
  • Knowledge of Health Maintenance and Monitoring Tasks
  • Must be able to think, act and intervene independently in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Must be self-motivated and function as an “in charge person”.
  • Plans and completes duties with minimal direction from supervisor.
  • Works collaboratively with peers and other team members.
  • Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques at all times.
  • Acts as ambassador and public relations representative to guests and other off-campus visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist seniors who are functionally, physically, and/or socially impaired in the Assisted Living area.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help, fostering residents’ independence and freedom of choice.
  • Work with a group of residents on their assigned hall for their shift.
  • Provide assistance with dressing and undressing.
  • Provide assistance with bathing.
  • Provide assistance with personal hygiene.
  • Provide assistance with mobility devices (cane, walker, wheelchair, crutches) including monitoring of safe transfer and ambulation techniques.
  • Care for ADL devices such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and dentures.
  • Provide assistance with telephone (assists with calls, telephone repairs, hearing and vision adaptive skills).
  • Provide assistance with housekeeping tasks associated with personal care such as washing dishes, bed making, cleaning bathroom and linen/towel changes, as well as doing resident’s personal laundry.
  • Assist residents with self-administration of medications.
  • Monitor medication supplies and documentation.
  • Observe and report changes in resident’s physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to the Director of AL or Wellness Nurse.
  • Conduct room checks and resident rounds.
  • Monitor for environmental safety hazards.
  • Report and record incidents, errors or accidents.
  • Report and record resident and resident-related events.
  • Promote residents’ social, physical and emotional well being.
  • Assist with escorting residents to the Dining Room for meals.
  • Assist with preparing the Dining Room for meals (setting tables, clearing tables, cleaning dining room & dishes when necessary).
  • Assist with taking meal orders and waiting tables during mealtimes.
  • Assist with planning and preparing for activities.
  • Assist with reminding and escorting residents to activities.
  • Participate in scheduled and unscheduled activities.
  • Assist with clean up after scheduled activities.
