About The Position

The assistant volleyball coach assists the head volleyball coach in directing all activities of the volleyball program with in NCAA, LSC, TAMUK, and TAMUS policies, guidelines, and procedures, including recruiting potential student-athletes. The assistant volleyball coach is responsible for maintaining high academic standards to support the academic development and graduation of student-athletes while focused on student-athlete welfare.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) years college coaching and recruiting experience or three (3) years of High School and College coaching experience.
  • Ability to hit and serve volleyballs.
  • Ability to run drills in practice.
  • Ability to stand for hours at a time for practices, camps, and matches.
  • Ability to move light, medium or heavy objects with assistance.
  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines
  • Knowledge, connections, and ability to recruit potential student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations for NCAA DII volleyball
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with student athletes and staff
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs
  • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Four (4) years of collegiate playing experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist in successfully directing the volleyball program to compete for LSC and NCAA II championships.
  • Assist in planning and direction of all practices, games, film review, and scouting reports.
  • Assist in the recruitment of student-athletes and maintaining a culture of personal accountability in student-athlete conduct.
  • Assist, as delegated by the Head Volleyball Coach, in preparing and managing the administrative functions of the volleyball program.
  • Assist in planning and direction of all travel.
  • Assist with summer camp preparation, including applications and staffing, as well as camp management and coaching.
  • Assist with coaching and running each summer camp session.
  • Assist in community engagement and donor relations by promoting the volleyball program within the priorities of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Assist, as delegated by the head volleyball coach, with all team fundraising initiatives.
  • Facilitate, foster, and maintain positive relationships within the campus and community.
