About The Position

Colby College, a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), is seeking an Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach. Colby College boasts 32 intercollegiate sports competing at the Division III level and has made significant investments in its athletics facilities, creating a benchmark for Division III institutions. The Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center is a state-of-the-art complex, and the College also features a 70-acre outdoor competition center. The Peak Performance Program integrates sports medicine, strength and conditioning, sports psychology, nutrition, and sports sciences to optimize student well-being and performance. Located in central Maine, Colby offers access to outdoor recreational venues. The Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach in all aspects of running a competitive Division III program, with responsibilities including on-site coaching, film breakdown, competition preparation, student-athlete support, recruitment, and program operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations governing collegiate lacrosse
  • Outstanding organizational, communication, writing, interpersonal, and analytical skills and the capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and to exercise sound judgement and discretion
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering
  • Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements
  • Ability to travel for team practices, competition, and scouting in and out of state
  • Strong positive communication and interpersonal skills with all levels
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the development of student athletes from varied backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience coaching and/or competing at the collegiate level is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • On-site coaching in races and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practices
  • Prepare film breakdown and analysis, and present analysis to team members
  • Plan and prepare for competitions
  • Provide support and encouragement to student athletes, including academic counseling and advising
  • Recruit and retain talented athletes successfully
  • Research academic and athletic credentials
  • Build relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone and one-on-one meetings
  • Organize and implement recruit visits
  • Ensure safety and well-being of student athletes
  • Serve as an effective role model for college-age students
  • Comply with all guidelines, rules, and regulations set forth by Colby College, the NESCAC, and the NCAA
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the program
  • Provide effective communication to the head coach
  • Collaborate effectively with other Department of Athletics’ team members
  • Assist with the coordination of team travel
